So I am currently beginning my junior year of HS. I plan on studying film/tv production and/or screenwriting. I'm looking at these schools and wonder if anyone has any input. Don't think I could get into USC or UCLA (or NYU, I guess) but then again I still have my big testing year ahead and am just beginning to practice film. Thoughts? I put what I THINK I'm at on the right.

USC - reach
UCLA - reach
LMU - match
Chapman - likely match but their film school is tough??

Emerson - match?
BU - reach?

UT Austin - reach only since oos

NYU - reach
School of Visual Arts - safety

Depaul University - safety

Ithaca College - safety

Lol the ?s after my guess at where I’m at make it look like I’m asking you, but you don’t know anything about my student career… Just did that for my own thinking, I guess. ;)

I can’t say anything personally but my son is in the summer film program at Emerson and was so impressed with the equipment and teaching that he said that he will now put Emerson on his short list for college. Plus it is in a really great college town.

Not sure what the question is here? It is way too early to assign reach/match etc. (This isn’t the chances forum, for one thing.) You are missing big components of your record, your Jr year and SAT’s. For UC they will just look at Soph and Jr year. So you don’t even have 1/2 of your record. If you are serious now about your studies you can go a long way to make yourself a more likely candidate. You especially want to get the most out of your English classes to make yourself a better writer, an excellent writer, really.

Also, you should be doing some EC’s to get experience and show passion in this area.

Other film schools: Wesleyan, Syracuse, UNC

Huffpost lists the Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 (you have to subscribe to get it from them) so you might find some other possibles here. You have a year to read and learn about them.

You have clearly found some very good film schools, but need to consider that in film production many of them are tough admits. The good news is you have time to improve your chances during the next 15 months or so. Besides digging into the Visual Arts and Film Majors forum as BeanTownGirl suggests, also consider the book Lights, Camera, APPLICATION, it has lot’s of good advice.
You also should try to match your interests and style to the schools you apply to, there actually is a lot of variation in the emphasis and culture of the schools. One more thing, keep in mind that UCLA film doesn’t start until Junior year. Good luck in your search.
