You might ask each if you can talk to a student ambassador.
Northwestern is grindy and competitive. It moves fast because it’s on quarters, on the flip side that means a class you don’t like will be over relatively quickly, and one can take more classes over four years. I can’t speak to UVA engineering.
Has your kid visited both? That can be helpful, if it’s possible.
