Are there people out there who have received huge jumps in their scores? if so, how did you do it?!
Please help me, as well as other people, out.
Insights are appreciated...
thanks!

yesss definitely.
When I first started preparing for the SAT I was struggling to break 2000 (beginning of junior year).
I took the test in March and got a 2190 (720 CR, 670 M, 800 W)... I was surprised that I scored high... but still not satisfied so I decided to take it again in May..... but due to AP's and stuff I didnt get to prep much... and it was a disaster
2070 (730 CR, 680 M, 660 W)
I thought I was pretty much screwed because I had dropped so much! I figured it was useless to try again because I really figured I was a bad test-taker. But then I decided I would hold off on ED/EA and apply regular, but take the SAT one more time in November. Best decision ever.

All during the summer I just practiced using CB material... I took practice tests every friday night (I think a total of 10 or so tests) and whenever I had a chance I just did practice sections, both from the Blue CB book and the Red one. This got me used to the CB-style questions, and also made me real comfortable with what is basically a 4 hr test. So there were really no surprises on test day. Additionally, the reading that I did in Eng AP towards the end of junior year really helped my CR score I think.

In any case, I took the Nov test
2310 (770 CR, 740 M, 800 W)

I was VERY happy... and while there are many scores out there that top mine, this was still more than I could ever hope for, given my past testing experiences. A 240 point increase from May 2005 to Nov 2005!

Practice Practice Practice (and a lil prayer never hurt anyone =P)

If you need any advice on specific approaches to the test, feel free to ask!

I went from 2080 to 2250. Even better since my VB + M was 1440 before and now it is 1570. Focus on those two since most colleges weigh them much more heavily that writing.

wow! hey, son of liberty, how did you study for writing? i usually get the idiom problems wrong, and i have no idea how to improve it..

well writing is really easy once you get a hang of it. CB uses the same errors again and again so practicing with the blue book really helps. Most of the idioms will be masked so they sound ALMOST right, but you have to read the sentence really carefully to nitpick. Perhaps looking at a review book's list of idioms may be helpful, though I never actually took the time to do it.

my story- 1st time i took the test, (640v, 690m, 560w) 2nd time- (630v, 720m, 800w)

heres my story...Highest of June and Nov. SAT---640(math), 610 (CR), 610 (writing) (8 and 10 respectivley)--Oct ACT(which ironically was in between those two horrendous scores) 33 math, 29 reading, 29 writing (11 essay), 28 sci
The thing is i could have done better on nov. but in my head i already knew that i would just send my ACT scores, so i think that hindered my performance...
they key to my jump...not doing anything at all, i even thought the reading on the ACT would be the same as the SAT, boy was i surpirsed when i opened the first page of the test...

I think the key is to just be unbelievably focused, remember to run by all the questions again through a logical and wholly lucid filter in your head, CONCENTRATE! ... and don't stress. You really have to be chill, or there will be no logical and lucid filter.

i went from an 1810 to a 1950! im happy but i know i couldve done better but still..no more SAT! I took a pr course and it didnt help ayt all (this was as prep b4 the 1810) then i just did like 4 practice tests in the blue book (cr only tho) and i increased!

560 cr, 610 m, 640 w to = 650 cr, 640 m, and 660 w....this was weird cuz i only thought id go up in cr and didnt study at a;ll for the other sections

Good thread. I was extremely disappointed with my PSAT scores: 540 verbal, 560 writing, and 650 math. To improve, I took practice tests. At least 5 or 6 full length tests before I took the SAT for the first time during June of my Junior year: 710 m, 660 cr, 600 w (8 e). I still wasn't content at all and had scored a 29 on the ACT (without much practice). I took more practice tests over the summer and in the fall and achieved a 31 on the ACT. I took the nov 5 SAT and improved even more: 720 m (not happy since I got a 35 on the act in math), 670 cr (wanted a 700), and finally, a 770 (9 e) in the writing for a total of 2160. Over the period of a year, I improved from a 175(0) on the PSAT, to 2160 on the SAT. A jump of 410 points. If you know you know the information tested, then take practice tests.

zoogies is definitely correct. i remember i was really nervous at the beginning of the nov. test... i felt my hand shaking. Thankfully it didn't affect my essay, but I think it affected me on my first CR section... I'm pretty sure that first section is where I lost all my points. However, after I got into the groove, it was a strange feeling--I wasn't nervous or anything, I was just calm, and even though I knew the stakes were high, I still was able to remain relaxed. I attribute this to the practice tests I took... cuz like I said before, the more tests you take, the more comfortable you'll be.

I went from 1750 (may) to 2080 (oct).
I just took a lot of practice tests.
I'm retaking it in Dec. I hope the trend continues... ^__^

Hey!
I took the old sats in January and was disappointed by a 1260. My parents were even more upset than I was and bought me a book to improve. I procrastinated until the week before the new sats in June and took 2 practice tests and my scores jumped to a 2190 (1440 old school). It was amazing what a tiny bit of prep, 1 semester more of classes and a shorter drive did for me. I hope that you find similar success in future testing!

After 9th- 1500
After 10th- 1800
2 months into 11th grade- 2100
Used college board's official book for practice and now I'm scoring above 2350 on each test.
Take the toughest classes possible. Use CB's official practice tests and the solution's manual for it to study from.

I practiced with the College Board Blue Book, and I scored about 1900-2000, every time. I studied for a month with the book, didn't do Princeton Review or Kaplan, and took the test with a month's worth of preparation. I got a 2200 (C: 750, M: 680, W: 770), at least 150 points higher than any other test I had ever taken.

Prep courses are worthless. You just need to use the blue book and you'll do fine in the end.

ya i hate prep vourses but im still getting flak from parents cuz they say "if only u had trird before" but they dont understand...its not volume of study its most definitely quality

10/04 PSAT: 189 (1890)
3/05 SAT: 2070
6/05 SAT: 2200 (2220 composite)
11/05 SAT: 2250 (2330 composite)

:)

10/03 PSAT: 145 (1450/2400)
10/04 PSAT: 199 (1990/2400)
03/05 SAT: 2080
06/05 SAT: 2230

Woah... good job cannednish. You went from slightly below average to 99%+. That's quite impressive.

Went from 1340 Old SAT and 196 PSAT to 2180 SAT (790 M 710 CR 680 W) without prepping at all, so its possible
