I'm from Bulgaria and I'm perhaps applying, though i'm not sure yet. Are there any international student from Carleton on the CC? Do you get a fin aid?

my friend from burma (myanmar) got in last year with a star scholarship (thats full tuition fees, full room and board, extra money for personal spending and even airplane tickets).

his stats are:

1460 SAT I (730 V, 730 M)
didn't take any SAT II
667 TOEFL (full marks for the paper-based version)

and 3 As and 2 Bs at GCE O levels i think.

im a filipino applying for carleton's starr scholarship too! :)

im surprised at the carleton thread - there seems to be a small number of people applying there..

my Korean friend got in with SAT in 1300s. He didn't ask for aid and had a brother there.

Fats: Did your friend have any other hook? I thought one had to be super competitive to get star scholarship. So I have a shot? (1530 SAT, 4 SAT IIs over 750, good GPA, 5 APs)

best_wr: any other hooks?

well, i think, first, he's from burma, and rarely anybody applies from our country.

and second, he got super recommendations by professors from Yale who opened a non-profit college-prep programme in yangon, burma to help out burmese kids to apply to foreign colleges, he attended a course there and applied to the US from there.

and his essay was about mountaineering in northern Burma and meeting the ethic folk and stuff.

i think they pay little attention to mere statistics for that starr scholarship thing, its more like you gotta be extremely unique and add a lot of diversity to their campus.
