Any Koreans applying to universities this year?

Hey guys!
just felt that it'd be interesting to get to know one another a bit and see which colleges all of you applied to. =)

Well, I'm a korean citizen studying in Canada.
I applied to MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Caltech, Cornell, U of T, and U of A.

How about you?

lol, the population of Koreans should be the largest among the undergraduate international students... although Chinese take up most spots in graduate level.
So, there should be tons of Koreans applying...

Hey coolness rookie, I remember seeing your stats and all your ECs and I was SO amazed!

I'm a new zealand citizen, (..but korean) and I applied to JHU, Penn, Carnegie Mellon, Chicago, BU, UVa, Michigan, Northwestern, UCSD.
I will apply to a couple more in the next few days!

My parents are going all angst about the prestigiousness of those colleges. The only ones that they like are:
JHU (for their medical reputation - even though i'm not going pre-med)
Penn (because it's an ivy)
Northwestern (because it was in this book that was all about prestigious uni's).

A lot of koreans in my school have applied to schools like Yale and Stanford but uh.. dont worry about the compitition.. they are auto rejects (sats all in the 500's, NO ECS (seriously - like NONE... like not even 1, like NONE), barely passed all their final exams)
I asked why they applied and they said that they thiink that their new zealand factor (they're not even citizens) is going to get them in :\
Well good luck to them anyhow lol

Hey NoFX,

Your name looks really familiar. I am pretty sure we have talked to one another before on college confidential. haha

New Zealand! Man, I'd love to live there. haha. everything is so boring around where I live... actually, when I was in gr 9, our family was thinking of moving to new zealand too.. haah anyways

about your friends who applied to big names... I didn't know being a new zealand citizen helped in the admission process. I thought that it'd rather hinder one's chances because ultimately it means the applicant is international..well as you said, good luck to them =)

well actually, as you probably noticed i am only applying to the mega big names in the states as well...if I don't get into them, I think I'll just go to U of Toronto. U of T is supposed to be in like top 25 on the world's university ranking, so I am probably better off going to U of T if I don't get into one of those.

well I hope that you'll get into the colleges that you have applied to (and I am sure you will =)). Good luck!

There's around 40 Koreans applying from my school (yeah, we have a large Korean population :P) and I know 3 were accepted ED to Cornell, 1 to UPenn (Wharton); I'm not sure about the rest. Most of them are incredibly smart (emphasis on most) and have good grades, speak excellent English, but have absolutely no ECs.

No. I dont think the new zealand factor helps at all - especially since they're not even nz citizens (korean citizens living in new zealand). Oh and they speak na da english.
My cousin lives in Toronto but she went over somewhere to attend Queens (where is this uni located?). She wanted to go to mcgill though - but she hopes to go over to U of T for medical school.
Good luck with yours

Queens is located in Kingston, Ontario. Good luck to yall applying to univs in the states. I'm Canadian Korean and I'll probably be applying for the 2007/08 admission season.
