I've been playing for a couple years, and I love it. I play middie, take face offs sometimes.

So just talk about lacrosse, who do you play for, what kind of stick you have, whatever.

I start D for the local varsity club team.
I'm from Northern California, so as you can guess lacrosse is not very prominent here, but there is a pretty large league.

Stick wise...I have a Harrow H2 head on a Warrior Kryptolyte shaft. I'm not the one who worries about gear and such though. My shoulder pads I got from a trash can at summer camp, they were dated '93. I love them.

That's cool, yeah where I live lacrosse is pretty big(Mass) so almost all towns have a team, so I guess you must have a sorta different experience, but lacrosse is lacrosse.

I tried lacrosse for a month or two, and I wasn't very good at it.

Our high school girl's team are the defending state champs...I guess that explains my lack of success when I tried it, haha.

lacrosse is awesome

i play second home

My sister is on the lacrosse team; I wasn't that good.

eugenia you play second home? care to explain

colege:
its an offense position second closest the opponent's goal (the closest one is first home) i guess kind of analogous to one of the attackmen in men's lacrosse... here's a better description:

"Second Home:
The second home is considered the playmaker. She should be able to shoot well from every angle and distance from the goal."

say this is your field: http://www.athleticfieldmarker.com/images/LacrosseWomensFieldDimensions.jpg
second home would start out roughly on the opponent's 27m, usually not go beyond her own team's 27m, and yea...

i've played midfield positions before, like attack wing, but i guess i'm a lot better at focusing mostly on offense.

i hate defense. i can't play defense for life. :]

I am considering trying out. My schools team is pretty good though, if I make it I make it. I've never played it before last week.

^ do it do it. lacrosse is awesome, and it gets a lot more fun & easy as you go. good luck if you decide to try out!

Basically, I just want to hit someone with a stick. I think I could make the team since I'll probably be the fastest on the team, but I don't know the rules of the game and have no actual experience. Also, I can't catch the ball so well. Once I have the ball no one can catch me though.

^ so you cradle well? cause that's really important. and being fast is obviously a plus. practice with someone on catching the ball though -- it's easy to pick up and once you have you'll start doing it subconciously

i wish i was a guy. only for lacrosse though -- we girls can't hit people with our sticks :[ i kinda still do though, which results in many fouls.

I've been playing it for two years; I started it freshman spring. I was captain of my thirds team last year and I'm planning to try for the JV team this coming spring. I play 1st defense and it's a lot of fun!
And I'm a girl....eugenia, what's up with "girls can't hit people with our sticks"?????

dank-If you want to get good, really what you need to do is play wall ball. It seems like you have a good physical base, so you just need the skills. Just go to your school or the side of your house and throw it from close, far, quick stick. You don't need anyone else, it's just you, and if you're motivated enough you can get really good by practicing on a wall. Good luck.

Thanks. I start conditioning for lacrosse tomorrow, if I don't make it I'll just run track like usual. My track coach is pretty ****ed as it is.

Are there any other skills I'm going to need? It is pretty competitive here(New England), I'm not sure how good I am at shooting, as I've never faced a goalie.

dragonreborn: because if you hit someone with your stick and it doesn't hit their stick, you get a foul... like i mean we can check people but we can't just hit them. which is why guys have a lot more padding & actual helmets & such.

Where I am, the guys will get penalties if they hit their opponent excluding their stick.

Well, I finished my first day of conditioning with the lacrosse team. Easy as pie, besides the snow squalls. I talked to the coach and he said he is willing to work with me as long as I'm willing to work hard.

So I'm assuming that means you don't have to tryout, that youre on the the team? Congrats. I have my tryouts in my new school coming up and I can't say I'm not nervous.

I made at least JV so far (not officially but he basically said so), I guess I'll see whether or not I stick with it and see how I fare by the end of tryouts. All he knows is that I play soccer and track and that I was the fastest kid on the team (we didn't work with the ball or anything)

Thanks for the support guys.
