@destiny95 wow, that is amazing! Around what time did you receive the call?
What # do they call from?
My D. got a rejection letter from Pace in today’s mail along with a tease “big” envelope from Pace that ended up being about the honors college. Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear!
sorry to hear that Fotokat. Which program did your D apply to?
This process is excruciating. I wish there was a better system than one notification at a time.
There is a better system. It’s called emailing all at the same time all applicants left at this point with a yes, no, or WL. They just don’t choose to do it. Heightens the drama. Crazy and rather unfortunate.
I agree. It’s also not great PR for the school.
@itzsommer she auditioned for BFA MT. Feeling fortunate to have a yes from Catholic, but three rejections this week stings. Still waiting to hear from TEN more programs. My daughter has remained in great spirits, but my husband and I are going nuts.
@itzsommer I see your point, but there’s a very specific reason they do it the way they do. Pace tends to not accept more than their yield generally to prevent the class size from being too big. For example, one of the PPA programs accepted 6 students and all 6 of them accepted their spot. They were looking to yield a class of 6 so emailing and accepting more than their yield at once could have resulted in more students than they planned to have in the program. It’s not meant to be dramatic or malicious, and they generally stick to what they said “if academically accepted you will know by mid March” I hope that helps!
The kids don’t commit during the phone call, do they? That’s the only way that would make sense. That would also mean that they are prioritizing their acceptances by rank which would eliminate the need for a wait list. I find it hard to believe that this is their “specific reason” but if you have heard this from a rep at the school, I’d like to know more.
The accepted students overnight for performing arts is in early April. Families need to plan their lives and make travel arrangements.
@Crumbs some of the kids they called already DID commit, and some did not.
@Crumbs I only know this since I am friends with them on Facebook, and they also wrote “can’t wait to attend PACE in the fall”
It’s all over twitter too. Makes the waiting that much more challenging. Especially since some of the kids we know have chosen other schools…
@Crumbs some students do commit by phone call, but to clarify I don’t mean that is the specific reason. Pace has gotten higher and higher in demand for their performing arts school and some programs in PPA prefer to be more personal by calling over the phone and speaking to the accepted student, answering questions, etc. The waiting is just a thing that comes with that. As a current student, I have to say that being called by my program head personally was a really awesome experience, rather than a mass email. That being said, the program heads are working professionals, professors AND program heads, meaning they are very busy as they put these classes together. Like I said before, it shouldn’t be dramatic! They’re doing their best to make these incoming classes the best they can be. and working really hard in the office! You will know soon
Does Pace use a strategy and formula where they make X numbers of offers with the expectation of Y numbers of acceptances? I have not seen any WL letters mentioned.
@theatrestudent9 tthank you SO much for sharing!! It’s nice to know that the personal calls mean so much to those who receive them. If I get a personal call, it will mean a lot to me, too! I appreciate your advice.
@Dadagogo all I know is that they inform those who have been accepted into the program FIRST, then they start mailing letters to those who are assigned as “alternates” (assigned to a specific person), or wait lists.
Thanks broadwaybabyyy, how do you know this if you do not mind me asking? Are you aware of folks receiving alternates and/or WL letters. (I assume they just read as wait list if you are not in the accepted bucket)
I’m curious about when the calls come in. Is it during the day or at night? Do they call the applicants on their cell phones? What about leaving a message?
@Crumbs My daughter’s call came (from Pace) about 3:30, he left a message and she immediately called back and got the acceptance. It was on a Thursday I believe.
