Thank you @Parent829 for an intelligent view of the situation (and for teaching me the word “demonym”!). As a member of ‘the entire PR industry,’ I read @kristinww’s link with a skeptical eye as well. (takes one to know one). Discussing % of applicants accepted without comparing # of applicants can be misleading. 92% of 10,000, of course, is less than 65% of 20,000. I’m also reminded that 79.4% of all statistics are made up.
Was wondering whats going on with this thread. For all you OOS. We are OOS, my daughter applied to nursing early November and was accepted before Christmas. So OOS acceptances have been going on for awhile. Furthermore, she chose another school. If you really want U Del and you don’t get in, there are plenty of other great schools out there. Embrace the ones that choose YOU and best of luck!!
My portal said that and then I found out I was waitlisted
We are OOS too. My son applied Jan 4th and received his acceptance in the mail on Feb 14th. His intended major is BioEngineering. So, OOS applicants are definitely hearing from UD. Good luck to everyone waiting! It won’t be much longer now.
FYI on today… Several people from our high school in NY heard today. all accepted. They were 3.7-4.0 gpa. many more from our high school havent heard yet (esp the 3.2-3.6 gpa folks). also the acceptances frmo our hs applied mid to end of october. D applied mid November ad we ahvent had deciison yet. (FYI Plus they werent asked for their mid year grades. many of us were.)
@mrm2015 were you waitlisted this year? Just curious --I didn’t know there was await list already. my D file hasnt even been reviewed yet. Best of luck!
Hi where in ny are you from? And good luck great info thanks
NY is closing in on NJ as providing the largest number of OOS students to UD. Besides the overall increased competitiveness of OOS admission to UD (over 70% of the students in the freshman class last year were from OOS) it probably has the unfortunate effect of increasing competition from students within each of these states with one another as UD overall is trying to expand its student body composition by admitting a larger number of students from many other states. Good luck to all those still waiting.
Another OOS acceptance here. My daughter applied in late October. Lots of honors and AP classes, 3.6 GPA, leadership roles in several clubs/activities. Communications major.
In mid January we her portal status changed to something like “under review” - I can’t remember the exact wording - and she got a letter in the mail saying a decision would be coming later because of so many qualified applicants. It encouraged her to send in midterm grades, but before she could do that we got the fat yellow “yes” envelope in the mail. She was really happy, not sure what she is going to decide but it is definitely one of her top choices. She just felt a connection to the campus when we visited last summer, that she hasn’t felt at most other schools.
One of her classmates did get a denial letter by snail mail the other day, so the denials are definitely coming out now as well as the acceptances.
Best of luck to everyone still waiting. Hoping financial aid comes out soon because that is definitely a factor in our decision.
@tennisgirl6 yes waitlist for this year. There’s been a waitlist since late November.
@mrm2015 what did it say on your portal before you found out you were wait listed?
Accepted mid-December
Male CT resident
Applied 10/31
GPA: 3.2 UW, 3.46 W
SAT: 620/670/570 (1860)
Lots of extracurriculars: Student Council, Model Congress (President), School Newspaper, Cross Country, Interned for State Senate Candidate over the summer, etc…
@jdawg2424 What will you be studying?
I wonder. Does admission office send out acceptances before other types of news to students at same high school? Last week several acceptances came to same NY school on same date. Rest of the people at hs still waiting for UDel decision.
My daughter got her “yes” envelope in the mail weeks ago but has two classmates that applied slightly before she did (one of whom I would say is equally qualified and the other one maybe a little less) that haven’t heard anything. One of them asked the guidance counselor if this meant anything and she said probably not - and that she doesn’t think they batch mailings by high school (but that she knows of a handful of schools that do).
Has anyone heard of denials? Anywhere OOS or not?
An OOS (it appears) denial was reported in post #268 on this thread.
Kids from our high school have been hearing since November, including one last week. Definitely don’t do a school batch with us at least (we are still waiting to hear).
Daughter applied early December and just got her acceptance on Friday through regular email as well as update on the myBlueHen home page. Accepted into the exercise science program for physical therapy. No indication so far if she got any scholarship $$.
I know of one denial - applied in early December as OOS and got a denial before my daughter got her acceptance. So it was a very quick denial.
