@bluedogg4 my son hit “send” on Columbus Day weekend. He got his acceptance the end of Feb. I remember because I was in florida and trying to tap into wifi everywhere I could to log on and check his portal! lol…

@lefty1 in the trenches with the rest… I am not sure if they do it any longer, but Legacy used to be treated as in-state as far as the admissions consideration. it was there when my D applied ( it used to be on the UD website )… i don’t see it any longer on their website… but all things being equal, it probably gives an edge over any other OOS student…

Bluedog, Our D’s decision was posted on MyBlueHen portal first, along with an email, then 3 days later came snail mail. As I dont have access to my D’s email, I would check portal everyday. I knew she was accepted before she knew.

@sull29 Thanks… from what I gather here…it is going to be a long wait!

The response time is all over the map. Last year my son submitted his application on Dec 19th and he got his admission notification on Feb 12th. His GPA was only 3.2 but took mostly Honors classes with a few APs. I remember stalking his portal two and three times a day.

I have to say that is one thing I like about the other schools she is applying to. They have set a specific date whent he decisions will be available. Unfortunatley, this is the only decision that matters to her. I just dont want this to drag out until spring time!

UDMom2018…Do you mind if I ask how your son did on the SAT? My daughter’s GPA is 3.3 unweighted. She takes mostly Honors classes. When she graduates in May she will have 12 college credits. She is class president, National Honor Society Vice President, 12 season athletic however her SAT score where just not that good. She knows UD is a reach for her but it is her first choice. I am on her portal all day waiting for a change. It says her application is under review.

@pam9802 I think the major will matter in the decision process as well, especially if the major is totally dominated by males. Admissions at UD always downplayed the importance of SAT scores and how they weigh them in the decision; simply because some people don’t do well on a test like the SAT’s… and why judge them on a single test.

UD does put a greater emphasis on rigor of HS curriculum as compared to SAT/ACT scores (but they are not totally irrelevent and are more commonly used to determine merit aid awards). For most majors (except for certain art/music majors which require portfolio’s/auditions) they recalculate an applicant’s GPA looking only at major academic areas (English, Math, Lab Sciences, Social Sciences, History, and Foreign Languages). They look especially at grades in advanced courses (AP, Honors, IB, college courses). Obviously the more of these types of courses an applicant takes and does well in can have a major influence on an admission decision. They also like to see applicants continue to take 5 major courses during both semesters of their Sr. year of H.S… UD feels that this will best prepare a student for the rigor of courses at UD and shows that students are continuing to challege themselves by taking the advanced coures. They take a dim view of students who decide to “coast through” their Sr. year and just rest on their laurels from their first 3 years of H.S. Also at UD the competition for certain majors is intense so applicants need to keep this in mind. Good luck to all applicants.

@pam9802 - His SAT was 1800 and ACT was 29. He applied and was accepted as Business
Undeclared. I think UD does a great job of looking at the “whole” picture of a student’s application. Also, not sure how the region you live is plays any part - we are from New England.

ACCEPTED!!! My daughter is over the moon… she is going to be a blue hen!

Congratulations, Congratulations. UD must have really done some work to improve on their new admission’s procedure. I don’t recall hearing of any acceptances last year until the end of December.

Hello! I was recently accepted into the nursing program at UD for fall 2015. If it helps anyone, I applied mid october and heard back a little over a week ago! I am OOS. I was very surprised to hear so quickly. Scholarship info was on my portal about a week after I heard I was accepted. Here are my stats if anyone wants to compare:
SAT: 1290/1960
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.9 uw 5.6 w
Many honors and AP classes, rigorous senior schedule, and a good amount of EC’s. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!! :)

@futurenurseMG - my daughter saw her acceptance/scholarship info on the portal Friday afternoon. How long after you saw you were accepted on the portal did you receive your acceptance in the mail?

@bluedoggy4 I actually didn’t even see my acceptance on the portal before I got my acceptance in the mail because I did not even think to check the portal. So, sorry but I’m not sure how long after my letter came

@airborne I know one of the boys is not an alumni parents both went to Suny Binghampton…the other boy I do not know :)

@futurenurseMG - I am looking at UDel for my Jr. She has very similar stats to you and we will be OOS. Can you tell me if you received any Merit Scholarship money?

@Mommy43 I received 9,000 per year. Best of luck!

@futurenurseMG, when did you find out about your merit scholarship? Was it online or only in the packet your received in the mail?

@collegeris I saw the scholarship on my portal about a week after I received my acceptance in the mail. And then the letter for the scholarship came a few days after I saw online.
