i was accepted at u of rochester and given $6000 in a merit scholarship. right now rochester has become my top choice school even though i never visited or interviewed. i plan on flying up this friday and im gonna ask the admissions people if theres any other aid available. i didnt receive any need based aid and cant really afford to go to the school without any other aid.

has this worked for anyone else? anyone know the right way to get more money? i figured asking in person would be better than sending them a letter.

You are right - establishing a contact in person is your best bet. My dad met w/a financial aid counselor on campus, and I think this really helped us out. He also sent a letter (you are required to send one if you want to appeal financial aid), but personal contact helped him make his case. I wish you the best of luck.

hey tigerlily, i was accepted too, so i went up last friday and met with whoever was there about to appeal, so the lady just told us that we could appeal by writing a letter and filling out some form like you said, but do you think you could show me that letter ur dad sent? just so we know what kind of format and stuff you put in there...good luck slope, the campus looks awesome!

sorry, I don't even get to see the letters regarding finances that my dad writes. There is no correct format. Just make sure to honestly tell them why you deserve more aid.
