Any Muhlenberg parents here?

Hello, my DD got into Muhlenberg with Presidential scholarship, and the more I learn about the school now the more I like it. Are there any parents on this forum that can talk about their experiences with the school? Thank you!

Congratulations on your daughters acceptance! We had an amazing experience with Muhlenberg College. It is truly a special community. From Freshman drop-off where older students carried all of the stuff from our car up to the dorm room, to parent weekends, to campus visits, to Honors Convocation, to just the amazing people and students. It’s a place that encourages your student to take risks in order to learn. It is safe, it is caring. If you need help, it is there. If you love theater or the arts you are supported. If you are athletic you aren’t looked down on but encouraged and supported. Great pre-professional programs. Small enough in size that professors will get to know your student from her first year. Many of these professors remain mentors and people you can call on years later for their thoughts and opinions. If the scholarship makes this school affordable for your family I suggest you give it serious consideration, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Best of luck to you!

PS. Do the accepted students day, it will give a very clear picture of what you may be looking at for the next four years.

@tula32 My daughter couldn’t be happier with her decision to attend. She was accepted at a few other schools, some considered more competitive than Muhlenberg, but felt the most comfortable at Muhlenberg when it came time to choose. I agree with beenthereanddone that you should seriously consider this school in light of the scholarship. Have your daughter attend the accepted students day, If she was admitted to an honors program, it would be very beneficial for her to spend time with someone who is in that particular program. Talk to and ask tons and tons of questions of as many current students as you can, and most definitely meet with professors in the subjects in which your daughter is interested. Walk around the campus and eat in the dining hall.

She did not get into Honors, but she is OK with that. She got into a lot of good schools (some more competitive, some less), but Muchlenberg is high on her list because of their partnership with JTSA (she wants to spend a semester there), strong theater and music program, and large Jewish student body. She wants to explore both Law and Business as possible life paths and seems like Muhlenberg will let her do that. We will be visiting them in April (can’t make the official “red door” program), they invited her to spend a night and sit in a class. I’m really looking forward to it.

DD told me she decided to take a gap year. Does Muhlenberg grant deferrals?

@tula32: I actually recently sent an email to ask about the effect of possible leaves of absence on scholarship aid for my D17, and was told that matriculation and scholarships (or at least the one my daughter was offered) would be held during a leave of absence (up to a time limit, of course), and that they’d also be held if she deferred admission. I’d suggest contacting the admissions and financial aid offices to double-check on your own daughter’s situation, but my impression is that they’re willing to work with students in such cases.

@dfbdfb, thank you! I was a little nervous asking for a deferral before knowing my DD’s final college choice.
