What are the potential events that might require my son to have dressier clothes on hand? He will likely come with khaki’s, polo’s, a couple of button down oxford-type shirts, a blue blazer and a couple of ties, but he also thinks he might need nicer pants, dressier shirt and silky tie (all mostly black, in this case). I’m trying to convince him that unless he plans on going to a wedding or a funeral, he likely doesn’t need the black dressy clothes. But…I told him I would ask the experts here. He will not be pledging, but might be part of a music ensemble.

I did finally convince him to cut the number of t-shirts in half - but the compromise is he added several polo shirts. My simple, doesn’t need much son is packing like a girl…help!

My S took dress black pants, dress black shirt and a tux for his concerts. He wore all of them multiple times. It will depend on the ensemble. He can look on the ensembles web page and see if they list the dress code requirements or find pictures of the ensemble on facebook performing. That will give you an idea of what that particular ensemble wears for performances. My S also needed khaki pants and various colored polo shirts when they played at basketball games etc.

for the black tie stuff you’d want to go silk… of course i don’t have $200 laying around for a Burberry Prorsum black tie, but places like Zara and Hugo Boss are good alternatives. I understand everybody in the south prefers brands like Brooks Brothers, though.
