We are still waiting and hoping to hear. I wish they would send a letter either way to let us know whether to plan to be in or prepare for a Spring transfer application. My son wants to be at UR!
You may want to call them. I don’t think there was a lot of waitlist movement last year. From my understanding, I believe deposits were due a few weeks ago.
My DD is withdrawing so 1 more spot is opening up in the sophomore year.
Sorry to hear that @cloudysmom ! Did she decide to transfer somewhere else? I recall that UR was not her first choice, but I was hoping she would enjoy being a spider.
@mamag2855 Hello! Thank you for remembering, its a wonderful school, really excellent just not a good fit. She found it small (her HS had 4k kids) and felt trapped on campus as you can’t walk anywhere. She did like the free shuttle but if she went to CVS she had to be there for an hour as it only came on the hour, didn’t go near the big museum there - just wants a city. She found it harder to make friends, she did make some which is great but not a lot of common interests. The clubs she joined she was really excited about but they rarely met and she felt so isolated. She is a history major and wanted a city with access to museums and cultural events, etc. Very disapointed as she found a nice friend to room with this coming year, who has a car - she was set to study abroad in Paris this coming spring - wish she would stay.
All this being said she thought it was a great education, gorgeous school, just never felt like what she wanted. I told her if she made good grades and I could afford it she could transfer. She made all A’s both semesters and applied to schools in the Uk - she handled it all on her own and has decided to go to Univ of Durham - which is actually much less $ than UR so it all worked out. I am mourning it a bit though, I have to say. A history degree at Durham is amazing but I got emotionally invested in UR and loved her being there, tried to change her mindset but she just wasn’t feeling it, sigh.
@cloudysmom My eldest had 3 friends transfer out of Richmond over her time there. She loved it but It’s just not for everyone and it’s always good to be frank about that. Glad your D found anothe replace she feels more comfortable at.
@cloudysmom best wishes to your D as she starts her new adventure in the UK! Public transportation there is excellent, so traveling locally and afar will be much easier. Glad it will save you some $$ too.
One of my UR grads spent a semester at St. Andrews in Scotland and had a great experience. The typical european educational model of no interim grades and one final examination determining your semester grade caused her some anxiety, although she did well in her courses in the end.
I hope your D gets to visit York, it has a large cathedral, the York Minster, an amazing historic site. We spent 3 days there during a visit and felt like there was still lots more to see. The city has old roman walls, viking history, and many other historic sites.
