pamayawaa, congratulations to your daughter too! I’m from Korea :)

I did NOT have the event thing yesterday, but it showed up today :D. Can’t check on my phone though, will update everyone later!

Here is the link to RSVP to Explore. (https://esdweb.esd.usc.edu/resrsvp/RegisterInfo.aspx) I think if you got in as a Trustee or Presidential, you’d be able to see a welcome screen AFTER you log into USConnect. (if you don’t log in, then you just get a generic “please check your USConnect page for updates”). Although I’m not 100% sure if this is right since I myself just clicked on the button that appeared on my USConnect page. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting!

CONGRATULATIONS pamayawaa!!! Very glad to see the official package arrived :)

eunbyul93, there is some discussion of your question in this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1281139-so-now-i-am-scholarship-interviewee-odds.html . You will find making the trip to the interview is very likely worth your while CONGRATULATIONS!

madbean, thanks for your insight on NMF…

So online it says I am admitted, but nothing of a scholarship…? Oh well, I’m still happy!

Today I received my acceptance package to USC Very happy about it! However, I am confused because I thought that acceptances in January were for scholarship candidates, and there was nothing in my package about a scholarship interview. There’s a letter congratulating me on admission, a letter about conditions of admission (contingent upon verification of official academic records, satisfactory completion of course work, and avoidance of academic and behavioral misconduct), a letter about how to submit the enrollment deposit and some more generic info, and then- most confusing- a blank piece of paper with my name and address typed in the center/top of the page. Was that supposed to be a letter for scholarship? I’m not sure what to do at this point because I would LOVE to attend USC, but I can’t afford it without a significant scholarship, and my parents will not allow me to make reservations for Explore USC unless I am definitely up for a scholarship because I live on the east coast.
Any advice?

Swinfreak001: CONGRATULATIONS!!! And there are variations each year - so NO guarantees - but last year those who heard in late January without a scholarship interview invitation received notification of a Dean’s scholarship (1/4 tuition) in late February.

The good news is that the scholarships were actually awarded with the letter - no interview or waiting for scholarship decisions!!! Let us know when you get a follow-up letter (I am recalling it was a good three weeks after the acceptances).

lgsr10,

CONGRATULATIONS! As mentioned above, you will *likely/I be awarded a Dean’s (1/4 tuition) a bit later.

In your case, though, I see that you are a NMSF. In that case, as an admitted student you are automatically eligible to receive the NMSF 1/2 tuition scholarship IF you name USC as your first-choice school by the deadline.

NOTE: The Dean’s and Presidential can NOT be combined - you will receive the larger of the two.

In your other posts, you mention your parent’s budget of $20,000/year and that you feel you will not qualify for need-based aid. So your current situation:

USC ~ COA $56,000
NMSF 1/2 Pres -$21,000
Extra $1,000 for NMSF -$1,000
Parent’s -$20,000

Balance: $14,000

You are eligible for $5,500 in Staffford loans by filing the FAFSA, leaving a balance of

$8,500.

Take that information to your parents, discuss the options - including your lower-cost options (I see that you have a full-ride at your state school), your interest in USC, and see if they feel spending the extra money would be advisable. By filing the FAFSA they become eligible to apply for Parent PLUS loans that could cover that amount.

CONGRATULATIONS on your admissions and more importantly for setting yourself up with a variety of options at varying levels of cost to be sure you have a GREAT result :)

Good luck!

Don’t think I got anything with a 2330 and a high GPA. Maybe I messed up somewhere because I have some peers that got in with lower stats. Oh well, I was hoping for better but I guess I was being too optimistic.

If I get in and am a National Merit Finalist, should I still qualify for the National Merit half-tuition scholarship?

IGSR10: Log on to your USC connect account. Go to the events Tab, and see if there is a link to RSVP for admitted students. Put in your phone numbers when asked and see what it says. When my son clicked on his, the first thing he saw indicated what scholarship he was being considered for.

Anonymous - yes, if you are admitted, are a NMSF and name USC as your first-choice school by the deadline, you will receive a 1/2 tuition scholarship plus an additional $1,000/year. We also often see additional smaller scholarships ($2,500/year University scholarships) added to some of the major scholarships in March and April.

Got my acceptance package :). No word on scholarships, so maybe quarter tuition in February? I don’t know, but I’m so happy! GO TROJANS!

OH MY GOD!!!
My enrollment commitment deposit & RSVP showed up today!
It doesn’t look like I got a scholarship since once I go to sign up for Explore USC it just says congrats on your admission, but I’m still excited right now after feeling so let down yesterday!

Awesome news eartheyes!!! Congrats!!!

Same eartheyes! and what do you mean no explore usc, do they not let you RSVP?

Nah, they let me RSVP but the explore USC dates are for in April, so no scholarship interview. It’s all good though, I’m hoping on Dean’s maybe!

yeah, I got the ones in April too. Dean’s scholarship is still nice though! It’s good having a USC acceptance under my belt, I was feeling really inferior about myself after all the RD apps were submitted, especially with a Duke ED deferral.

Is it safe to say that if I still don’t have to Explore USC tab up, I won’t be hearing back until March/April? (I am in MA)

^ yes…
