I live in SoCal and a lot of my friends have already gotten their mail (like last Friday and Thursday). I got a 2210 superscore on my SAT and have a 4.3 GPA. Do I have a chance of getting a scholarship. Also, if I will not be considered for a scholarship, will they send me a letter saying so because I did apply before the scholarship deadline.

Actually Seahawks understood perfectly - it was an earlier poster that started the inquiry a few days ago. See second sentence in below from post #233 and then clarified it in #236.

“I got a “blank piece of paper” with my name and address on it as a potential Dean’s scholarship recipient… It was only the sheet they put at the front of the package to indicate who the package was to be sent to.”

The threads are fast and furious right now and I am sure it is hard for all these excited and anxious kids to read through all of them. Understandable that many inquiries are made and misunderstandings can occur. Thanks to the adults that have been through the process to help the kids work through all this during such a stressful time!

@lonelybottles. Got a great lol this morning with your post!!! Loved it.

“The blank sheet is the paper that shows your name/address through the mailing envelope window.”

Yes. We did not get a mailing so far but really - the level of hysteria needs to come down.

Squiggles1118 - thanks. I do want to add (in spite of my critique of the Admissions department ((and my parenthetical asides))) that USC really is a compelling option now compared to UCLA. The physical plant is vibrant and new, the support of the alumni is evident, there are unique offerings like an undergraduate business degree, and the ability to complete your degree requirements in four years is much more certain. Throw in OOS UC tuition for those outside of CA and it’s really competitive.

Oh yeah, and there’s the small matter of the football team as well.

“there’s the small matter of the football team as well”

well, take heart, I was rooting for Stanford when they ended up beating USC at the last game. Old allegiances die hard sometimes.
But USC IS quickly becoming a great University and I’m sure your son will love it there.

menloparkmom, so YOU’re the one! LOL.

I often confess here that I have also become one of the converted. Not only did my H graduate from UCLA, I, um… teach there. Yes, all true.

But can anyone around this forum doubt who I root for on Saturdays in the fall???

LOL Ladies! Confession is good for the soul!

Cal Bear here (UC Berkeley), along with my husband. Back in the old days when the “University of Spoiled Children” was an applicable moniker, we all waved credit cards at the Trojans when they came onto the field.

When we accompanied my son to his Thornton audition, as we were walking past Tommy Trojan, I warned my son that I was having an allergic reaction to all the crimson and gold. My husband quickly agreed.

At this point… sold. Husband believes “we drank the Kool-aid” way back at Explore, right about the time the Trojan band came into the dining room.

I warned my son that I was having an allergic reaction to all the crimson and gold.

LOL!!! so true back then!

This thread is making my day… on the other side being a Trojan, it was really really painful to tour an un-named school in Westwood this past fall. hahaha

I went to USC undergrad and UCLA med. Despite this, still cheering crimson and gold. Son applied to USC, but not UCLA. He just got invited for Presidential interview @ USC Explore next month! I’m so proud and happy when we got the news, I got tears in my eyes… Fight On!!!

So happy for you ngongs! Fight On!

You’re such a good parent! My parents have such high expectations, I sensed a hint of dissapointment from them that I didn’t get P/T finalist. Never, ever act less excited than your child, just a word of advice that I’m sure you are all following anyways!

Seahawks, we’re so proud of you. I hope their disappointment was more about the $$ (which is a profound amount to most parents) and not the honor you earned–because it is huge. We focus too much on the top merit awards here (that time of year), but in a couple of months you will see just how many excellent students will be posting here just wishing beyond hope that they even get an admissions packet. You have already cruised through that battle. And yet all admitted students, early or later notice, top $$ or other fine merit awards and FinAid, parents full pay or taking out some loans, fall or spring admits, are beating enormously hard odds to be invited to take a spot in the next class.

When you see the caliber of fabulous students who post disappointing admissions news in April here, you may get some perspective on how exciting it is just to be admitted.

Fight on!

^Definitely, madbean. Something I’ve been taking to heart the past year or so is being glad for all that I’m blessed with, as cliche as that sounds. I absolutely realize that while I’m worrying about landing a nice scholarship, others are wondering if they can even afford college at all.

@Seahawks…We were just so happy at the early admit! You should be incredibly proud to be selected so early. I am sure it is as madbean pointed out…all parents hope for those $'s to help pay and your stats are fabulous so I can see why they were hopeful. Well, I am feeling proud that you represent the high quality students from our state - Congrats!

Seahawks, Congratulations! Early admission is an incredible accomplishment, only offered to a very select few.

Seahawks, you sound like a wonderful person, and I am sure your parents are very proud of you! Congrats on your admission! Fight on!

I have to confess I also teared up when my young man opened his acceptance package. He is still on Cloud 9. Slight disappointment in not being a Trustee interviewee. So grateful for the NMF scholie; however. Thanks to the Trojan Family for making it possible.

SeaHawks: Please let me add my note of congratulations! As a parent, I know we always want others to recognize just how special you kids are- and to reward that with the top honors. The note of disappoinment you noted in your parents may have been directed at the admission folks who they might feel didn’t see what they saw: a very talented, amazing kid. In truth, they DID see that because you got that early admisission. Why some get the invite for interview and others don’t doesn’t seem to be about just grades and scores, but some combo of what they are looking for AT THAT MOMENT, and what an individual student offers. My older son had better stats than my younger, had an amazing resume, including some very different things (competitive jump roper with international titles) and did not receive a merit scholarship at his chosen school (where by the way- they just give them without interview and where he is a very happy sophomore). My younger son did get the invite this year. Perhaps because USC needs one of “him” in this class, whereas on another day or another year someone else would have been chosen. So it may be less about “you” or the other kids not getting the invites, but about putting together a diverse class with kids from a variety of places, backgrounds and talents. The fact you got the early admit tells us all you were among the top applicants this year. And… the early admits without interview invitations at this time may be those getting the Dean’s or other scholarships in the days to come.
