bump…

Rhodes is a great little school. The campus is absolutely beautiful (Gothic architecture and nice landscaping), and Memphis itself is a pretty decent place for a college student - dirt cheap with lots of fun things to do. Many of the facilities like the library are brand new and up to date. The area around Rhodes (Midtown) is very student-friendly and has a zoo, art museum, park, bars, places to eat, etc. Though not as selective as some of the top LACs, it does a very good job of turning out successful graduates. Greek life is reasonably big (~50% rush, I think), but frats/sororities are nonresidential, which helps keep Greek life from dominating the social scene. I’m not familiar with the political science program at Rhodes, unfortunately. Probably the only real downside to Rhodes is that it’s a bit lacking in diversity.

Correct. It is far easier for an OOS student to get into UNC as a transfer than as a freshman.

U Rochester is not “ultra selective” but has an excellent political science program. Might be worth a look.

You might get more/better suggestions if you explained what you want in a college…UNC and Hampshire are pretty different.

Reed is highly competitive for freshman admission. I’m unsure how that would translate for transfer. Portland is a wonderful place. They TRY to meet need for incoming students.

@warblersrule Thank you so much for your information on Rhodes!!! I have decided to apply to UNC because it think it would be a match or high match for me that meets full need for oos applicants out of the other schools that are going to be reaches especially for transfers. I think UNC although big in size is very different from where I currently am at UConn. UNC has a great location in North Carolina warm weather, gorgeous campus, and a wonderful college town that I would never get tired of compared to being in the middle of no where Connecticut where all of the instate students go home on the weekends. UNC also has superior academics to my current institution specifically in the political science department which would assist me to graduate school or law school. The school also seems to have a whole lot of spirit and school pride which would be nice, I really would desire to have a school that is a community.

The rest of the colleges I am looking for similar things except smaller sizes to have a tight knit college community with stellar academics, smaller classes that will also me to finally have a relationship with more of my professors, in a great location that will keep be occupied with things to do while I have some free time. Also would prefer that the suggestions are in the northeast since my list is already southern dominated and I am from NJ.

@Erin’s Dad Thank you for your response I do not think I am going to apply to Reed, I am under the impression that it is just as competitive if not more for transfer admissions.

^ hopefully some of that info with help people narrow down their suggestions.

I would like to thank everyone so much who has read and responded to my thread. I really appreciate the help and suggestions so keep it up !!!

Have you considered American University? I don’ t know how they are for transfers, but excellent for poli sci.

^ Thank you teachandmom I was looking into maybe applying to both American and George Washington which are both pretty transfer friendly but the cost of attendance and the fact that neither meets full need was making me a little worried, that is actually the reason that I didnt apply to either as a senior but I will look more into both.

bump keep up the great ideas THANK YOU!
