Any notable schools besides the UCs claculate GPA differently?

Do any of the top schools (some of interest: UNC, Duke, Vandy, the Ivys) take your transcript and calculate their own GPA that may differ from the unweighted one that the high school provides?

Presumably, those that do recalculate have their own methods, though they are not publicized like UC/CSU. The UC/CSU GPA calculation is reasonably well known because California is a large population state with over 30 public universities, and the UC/CSU GPA calculation method is publicly described: https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp</a></p>

Some other schools have their own GPA calculation methods. For example: https://usfweb2.usf.edu/admissions/gpa-requirements.html</a></p>

However, highly selective private schools might not publicly describe any recalculation method, or may not recalculate at all, due to the desire not to reveal too much about their holistic admissions process. Colleges that do not recalculate GPA do not necessarily trust what the high school puts down as GPA either; they may just holistically look to see if the courses are generally rigorous ones and the general grade pattern (all A grades, mostly A grades, mostly B grades, etc.).

The reason i ask is because my unweighted isnt that great, however, my weighted is very good due to all of the college courses i have taken (dual enrollment school).

A rigorous schedule is going to be appreciated by all colleges. (However it is best to not overextend to the point that you can’t also keep the grades up.)

Ive just counted and I have taken a total of 39 courses during high school. I guess i have an advantage when it comes to rigor, i just hope it comes across in admissions. Thanks for the replies!

My D’s school had a night where 17 college admin officers visited from various schools of different levels. ALL said they recalculate GPA but didn’t go into detail. All mentioned rigor matters.

Both my D’s school and the one I teach at do NOT weight any levels nor do they rank. Has never presented an admission problem since both schools are very rigorous. They also limit 4 AP’s per year.

They did show interesting video where 4 people from same school with same GPA were recalculated. The new GPA’s ranged from like 3.4 to 4.1 So interesting, but no real secrets revealed.

I have heard that some schools take A-'s and make them 4.0s and take B+'s and make them 3.0s…is that true?

California public universities do not count +/- when recalculating high school GPA (many high schools do not count +/- either for GPA calculation purposes).
