Took the SAT for the first time this weekend. Wasn't feeling overly confident aboot it, but I really don't want to cancel the score - rather see what I got.

I got a 32 composite on the ACT (including writing). Retaking it in April hoping to bring it up a point or three.

So most colleges I'm interested in say the SAT or ACT is acceptable, but... hmm... Could it possibly hurt a candidate to only submit ACT scores instead of SAT?

I realize colleges will generally claim to indisciminately accept either test. Yet the SAT just seems so dominant here on the east coast, yet I prefer the ACT by far.

I'm not taking the SAT (except subject tests, as UCs require two SAT IIs). My ACT was 34 and PSAT was 210. I'm on the west coast and SAT is dominant here too, but colleges accept either without prejudice.

So, would a 32 composite really have the same influence on admissions as a 1420? Seems like colleges are always freaking out about SAT median scores, yet no college seems to get its proverbial panties in a wad over median ACT score. You dig?

(z): "yet no college seems to get its proverbial panties in a wad over median ACT score"....Haha...welcome to CC.....

Well, what you could do since you have your 32 in the bag, is see how well you did yesterday and decide...my d happened to get very equivalent scores on ACT/SAT (32/1450) so decided to send both so the admins could use whichever they wanted to keep their "panties in order".....

For most colleges you're fine if you just take the ACT; that's what I did. However, note that most of the "top-tier" colleges will require the ACT PLUS writing.

Exceptions: the ivies are about the only ones that also require that you submit SAT II scores.
