Anyone apply for nursing and heard back yet?
Yes, my daughter applied nursing back in September- received the “due to the competitive nature of your major” letter. So we are waiting!
On the 2020 Acceptance Thread two students reported being accepted into Nursing, one on 1/14 and one on 1/19. One reported still waiting to hear about acceptance into the Honors Program as well. While it is impossible to predict with certainty, in past years (with rolling admissions) most of the Nursing acceptances were announced in Feb and March (probably due to the high level of competition for this major - over 1500 applications for a freshman Nursing class of 130-140 - they usually accept about 300 students to get to this number-2/3rds from OOS). Good luck to all those still waiting.
ok thanks that helps to know……Pins & needles since its the first choice school….
I was accepted to nursing around the end of December. I applied sometime in October
My stats were like 3.65UW GPA, 3.8 W GPA and 2110 SAT if that helps.
I was accepted to nursing as well. I had a 4.0 W GPA and an 1890 SAT.
I was the one that got accepted into nursing on 1/19 in the 2020 acceptance thread. I was surprised to hear back from them so soon, because I only applied four weeks earlier- a few days before the deadline. I expected to hear back in march because the program was more competitive.
Fyi if anyone wants to see my stats they’re in the 2020 acceptances thread, just go to the last page
Ignore my last post, you can just see my stats here:
SAT: 2070/2400
GPA: 3.7 out of 4.0
My high school doesn’t do class rank
Took 3 APs, 4 honors courses
Captain of varsity swim team
Student council member
Special Olympics volunteer
Club swimming
Part of church service/justice ministry
Swim instructor at our recreation camp over the summer
(I did a lot less ECs than I hear others usually do but club swimming took up a lot of my time)
my dd just got accepted!
My dd got accepted to Nursing the last week of January. Wish she would have received more scholarship money because it is still expensive for an OOS student!
@gators19 and others who have been accepted to nursing: 1st BIG CONGRATS, so happy for u, for those of us still waiting, we would appreciate basic stats like GPA, sat/act scores, IS/OOS and #AP/honors classes - Also, will u attend? this will help those of us still waiting determine our chances. It’s not too helpful to post “my dd just got accepted.” I am not trying 2 b disrespectful, just gathering info for analysis an comparison purposes. TIA
@zoe411, thank you so much and good luck to you! My daughter is in the top 10% of her class, 4.0 GPA, 1880 SAT, Pres of student gov, 2 soccer teams (both HS and travel), captain of soccer team, lots of community service, ap, honors and college classes. She organized many fundraisers at her school and outside of school. She currently works plus has a little business of her own as a birthday party organizer. She is also involved in other clubs at school. I am not sure what else I am missing but that is basically what I can think of off the top of my head. Hope this helps!
dont recall her GPA but under 4.0…varsity athlete…club sports…National Honor Society, some school clubs, volunteer in the community, pt job, 29ACT
Lots of science classes (can’t recall if this was important to UD nursing but some colleges it was)
honor bio, honor chem, AP chem, AP physics, Anatomy, AP Psycology, AP environment…
school does not rank
OOS
I feel the need to respond as a somewhat abnormal accepted applicant. I applied December 21 and heard back around January 20, and was accepted into the nursing program for the fall. I also got the Provost scholarship which doesn’t make sense but I’m not complaining haha.
I am from Arizona, which probably helped. I got a 1910 on the SAT (660 math, 640 reading, 610 writing, 9 on essay), and a 30 on the ACT (31 writing, 31 reading, 30 science, 29 math, 36 on essay). UW gpa was a 2.9 (I know it’s terrible, but my school is incredibly hard and has a set curriculum for each student), but my W gpa is a 3.7.
I had three letters of rec: science, english, and counselor. I worked a seasonal retail job and volunteered 30 hours at Mayo Clinic. I wrote my essay on my experience fostering four babies.
I was kind of expecting a rejection (at least for nursing) because of my gpa but somehow I got in and got a scholarship… I think it was mostly because I am from Arizona honestly.
congrats @skylerk98 The schools here only do weighted GPA.
I asked my dd to apply to ASU but she didn’t want warm weather. What motivated you to apply to UD?
My daughter was accepted OOS into Delaware Nursing program! We weren’t expecting this as her test scores were on the low side but her GPA was 4.2, with outstanding EC’s and really good essays and recommendations I think because she has gotten accepted to every college she has applied to so far. I would love to hear what anyone has to say about the Delaware nursing program. We heard it was really good, one of the best, but that’s about it. We live in California, so won’t be able to visit until spring break. Any info would be welcome!
congrats @netter11 So you are coming a long way! We are OOS but not as far.
I was actually wanting my dd to consider sdsu but she didn’t.
We did the nursing tour and it was impressive. Liked the fact that they use the theater students to act as patients. They actually have them study a particular condition and talk to someone with it so they can act like real patients. Have not been to any other nursing programs yet to compare. But the university said they were unique in doing this.

If you have not done so already I would recommend having a look at the Nursing Program website on UD’s main website. It describes the Nursing Program in detail. UD does have one of the best Nursing Programs on the East Coast, if not the country. The Nursing Program is a research based design specifically formulated to address the changing face of the Nursing Discipline. The Program provides an excellent clinical education in general Nursing and also prepares students well for subsequent Nursing Grad Programs. Our D got a great job following graduation from UD with her BSN in 2010 on an ICU Unit at Cornell-Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC, subsequently completed her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the the University of Miami, and is now on the Nursing Faculty there teaching BSN students. If you have any more specific questions about the Program at UD please feel free to PM me. Good luck to your D in her Nursing career. If she decides to attend UD I have no doubt she will be glad she did.
