My daughter is a guitar-playing, sit-barefoot-in-the-park, listen to Bob Dylan sort. Did you folks who visited see any kids who looked like that?

That sounds more like Lewis & Clark, Reed or U of O, though there is a counterculture group at Willamette as well.

Thanks. We're looking at Lewis & Clark and Reed, too.

I just got my acceptance in the mail!! Has anyone else here? I will admit though that I don't know very much about the school other than what I've just read here, but it seems like a great place to go to school.

congrats rosiebee!! Any news from Scripps?

Thanks historymom :) No news from Scripps!! I think I'll go legitimately crazy by the time the decisions come out, haha. Just curious- what is it about Willamette that made you and your daughter put it one the same list as Scripps? My best friend is the one who suggested that I apply here and evreything I've read has been impressive. Neither of us have visited Willamette though...

My D put Scripps on her list bc she was drawn to the size as well as the idea of having the advatage of all-women living with access to the other Claremont schools. The admissions presentation she and I went to sealed the deal she loved the way the community was described and she really would thrive in the Scripps intellectual environment.

Willamette is a school that I am encouraging her and her sister to look at for many of the same reasons, sans the single six aspect. It is known for the community spirit and kindness of the student body and faculty. It also offers an active pre-vet club and a solid reputation in the sciences w/ a track record for getting kids into vet school. Both are about the same distance from home hours wise. My Ds are attrated to many schools that offer awesome outdoor opportunities and Willamette does that as well. It's also more of a match whereas Scripps is a bit of a reach.

We are visiting in April and will post a visit report. I'd be happy to PM you with what we found out if you would like. :-) hm

Thank you so much!! I would love that :)

D visited both Scripps (my suggestion) and Willamette (hers). Even did and overnight at Scripps and attended a class. Visited Willamette during the summer when there were no students there. Is now a sophomore at Willamette and heading for Ecuador next fall. (Never did even apply to Scripps). Schools will "speak" to kids and so far mine has liked what she's heard. Good luck in your kids' choices.

I also applied to both Willamette and Scripps...as well as 7 other schools. I got my acceptance from Willamette in January, and am anxiously awaiting my other replies!

Congrats amybea. I hope my daughters are in you spot in a year's time!

MotherMoo: No input on the major per se but when we were doing our tour the guide said how he had participated in a 48 hour theatre challenge thing in which students had written, cast ,dierected, produced and performed an original production over the course of a weekend. My D is a bit of a theatre tech and thought it sounded cool. The performing arts facilities are wonderful!

Is your D still considering Willamette??

From what I've read about it here at CC it is definitely on our list of places to tour next summer. Thanks for all the feedback.

My D just applied to Willamette. We haven't visited yet (probably not till spring), but the campus photos look beautiful, the Japanese studies program is of great interest to her, and she's got a good shot at merit aid.

She's considering it a safety school at the moment, but I'm not reading too much into that yet. When we visited her California picks last spring, actually being on the campuses made her preferences shift dramatically.

lunitari, my D applied as well and found out yesterday that her file is complete so she should be hearing before Thanksgiving! Best of luck to your D. The Japnese studies exchange/partnership is a strong point at Willamette

Thanks, historymom! Good luck to your D, too. Sounds like we might get news around the same time.

She's so anxious about this whole college application process--I think it'd do wonders for her if she had one early acceptance that she could count on.

The Willamette acceptance arrived yesterday with a nice merit award offer :D You should have seen D's face light up. She really likes a lot of the qualities about Willamette and H and I both feel it would be a good spot for her if she decides to go there.

Lunitari did you hear yet?

historymom,
How was did the acceptance arrive? Fed Ex? Letter? I thought my daughter would know by now.

^I received my acceptance and merit aid stuff in a thin envelope via regular UPS.

nomore: it was a large envelope but not thick. It had just three or four sheets of paper inside delivered USPS. Good Luck to your D.

Congratulations Janelle. How likely are you to attend
