Any one else doing Fordham's Your Choice Application?

What exactly is this? Will I be forced to attend that school?

Thanks

when did you get that app?

I received one as well.

Free, streamlined application, not binding.

Why didnt I get one? Im ****ed

NY, did you show interest in the school? That's one of the factors for receiving one.

And as z said, the application is just quicker and free, while being non-binding.

I'm using it!

And you're never forced to attend Fordham. They only have Early Action (EA) and Regular Decision. Early Action is due by Nov. 1 and it's nonbinding, so even if you get in you aren't obligated to attend.

I'm filling it out too--just wondering, what exactly is the definition of immediate family? I have a second cousin (my dad's cousin's kid) who attended Fordham and I don't think that qualifies as immediate family but I wanted to double check, just in case.

Also, am I obligated to add all my SAT test scores? Or should I just add my highest score?

You only have to report the highest score. But I'm not 100% sure about the cousin thing...I don't think you have to list that?

I have a question too...
Is there a max. amount of words for the essay? It doesn't say on the app, but I was wondering if maybe mine would be too long? Right now, my essay is running a little over 1000 wds (I'm trying to cut it down though).

esgee: I'm pretty sure second cousins aren't part of the immediate family. And i just filled in all my sat scores. They'll see all your scores anyway when they receive the official sat score report.

Okay, thanks!
I was wondering about the word max too...if it's similar to Common App, it should be a 500 word max I think.

Immediate family: mother, father, siblings. Some people report grandparents, aunts and uncles and 1st cousins, but the most important are the first 3.

Sat scores: Fordham will see them all, but if there's not enough room on the application, report your highest scores. Don't try to hide or fail to report any SAT scores you don't like, because they will see them all.

Regarding the essay: use the common app word count as a reference.

Thanks, FordhamAlum!

I have another question besides the one about the essay. The Your Choice app only asks for one recommendation, and that's from your counselor. Can we also send in additional recs (one from a teacher, the other my principal)?

And what about any other additional information we might want to send? Should I just give it all to my counselor to mail with my transcript?

I'm planning on it, but I was wondering...I already gave my teacher and guidance counselor my common app forms....can I just have them send those in or do I have to give my counselor the Choice Application form?

My d's h.s. sent 3 recommendations, 1 from her GC, 2 from teachers she had during junior year. This is the norm for the Common App & is acceptable with the Your Choice.

Re sending additional information like the application & a resume: You can either have your GC include it with your transcript/recommendations or send it in separately. Everything will be sorted at the college & put in your folder when it arrives. The majority of applications are sent electronically, so there is a lot of sorting/matching going on when the transcripts arrive. The SAT's/ACT's are downloaded electronically.

Thanks, FordhamAlum!

one thing on the college essay
remember addmissions go through applications quick! so you dont want you essay to be much longer than two pages since they will lose interest and stop reading. Also make sure its catchy in the beginning, this way itll put the admission reader in a good mood (and an interested train of thought)

i have a question? What if i like my common app essay and would prefer to send that instead of a significant life experience, or the other two choices? would that be ok? just wondering.

morganrichman, I actually called Fordham to ask the same question and they said that we had to stick to whatever topic was on the Your Choice app NOT Common App.

Also, what do you mean by other two choices? I thought the only essay prompt in the Your Choic app was the one regarding significant life experience.
