Please< If You Are A Waiter, Let Us Know When And If You Hear

Not yet. You?

I don't think anyone will hear from the waitlist until after April 10 when contracts are due.

It is imperative that you let them know it is your first choice and that you would walk to the ends of the earth to attend next Fall.
I truly believe it does mean something for them to hear that.

Agreed - loud and clear, let them know they are your one and only first choice. I know this is sometimes hard to do, but don't be shy, call them!

Last year I knew of people who got in off Hotchkiss waitlist before 4/10.

Yes, some schools do let people know if they're going to get off the waitlist before the tenth.

Some prep schools waitlist many students as a form of polite rejection which recognizes the students' outstanding abilities and accomplishments. Of course, many students at these schools are waitlisted as actual backups if yield is lower than expected. Elite prep schools typically only take a very few students from the waitlist. The elite boarding schools are looking for maturity as well as for the ability to do the work. Some second tier schools waitlist exceptionally well qualified students because they are not convinced that they are your first choice school.

How many applicants or percent does a school generally waitlist with respect to acceptances?

andover stated in the letter that they do approximately 25 per grade. The other schools did not specify in their letters

How many would Choate waitlist, if Andover has 25?

choate did not say in their letter and neither did exeter.

Drnancie, where were you waitlsited?

I have my PhD and do not need to go to boarding school!!!!!

Oh, sorry!! :) I was assuming you did because you saw Choate and Exeter's WL letters. Do you have a child applying? That would explain it!

Wouldn't it be too early to hear back from a school you were waitlisted at?

Choate has a policy in which they don't give out waitlist decisions until after their last revisit date, which this year is April 5. I don't know what other schools' policies are, but yes, it is a possibility to get a waitlist decision very early; this early, I'm not sure.

That raises an interesting question...because waitlisted students have to make their decision without the benefit of a revisit.

Assuming that a student does get offered a space off the wait list....

...how much time is there to reply?

...will the school accommodate a request for a visit (either before the reply is sent back or perhaps even afterwards)? Obviously this wouldn't be a personalized replay of the revisit experience, but will a school allow you to shadow a student or have you come in for a "lite" version of the presentations and tips and pointers that were conveyed during the revisits? Or do they say, "We'll send you what you need in the mail. See you in September."

I have been told that typically you are given a day to decide, and you do not get to do a re-visit. By the way, d'yer, your pm box is full!

You can't even shadow, like D'yer said?
