no news (St Pauls Milton and Middlesex )

this is second hand info but heard that sps is full

look this has been a really hard year for not only college applicants but also prep school apps...it the descendents of the baby boomers...

Has anyone heard from Brooks regarding their WL?

Heard a big FAT "we are full for 9th grade girl boarders" from get this
Andover
Middlesex
Milton
Deerfield
All said they are NOT likely to go to wait list and
that it will be onsies twosies at most and NOT likely til June..
time to look for late application accepters or accept the PENGUINS
for HS--lol..she is safe at a Catholic HS that is decent but I am
Episcopalian and had my full of required Religion classes keeping her
up late as it is...yeesh

I am an idiot of a parent- not really but learn from our mistake and if you are committed to prep school..pick a very safe school..LOL Middlesex was our SAFE School...median SSAT 85 our daughter 90---grades 97 average,
plays piano, sings in Choir, lead in Drama, WORKS IN A FREAKING SOUP KITCHEN>>>AHHHHHHH I Want to KILL SOMEONE!
waitlistman---with HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!

Oh year- and she is a bi-racial MINORITY student-so much for affirmative action they have none at these school except for legacy affirmative action and big donor affirmative action-and WE DID NOT ASK for Financial AID either
ARRGGHHHH
Babydoll we feel your pain...

waitlistman -

given your daughter's interests, look into Northfield Mount Hermon. They have a good music program and a wonderful choir!

waitlistman, you're not an idiot but, Middlesex is not a safety school.

Hope he hears better news than we did..Deerfield was not optimistic and said they are full.. We will stay on all 4 wait lists- Milton said if anything will happen it will NOT be in April and Middlesex, PA, and Deerfield all were also saying that "much" movement for 9th Boarding girls not likely...
I think they want you to put your kid in their fall back--which we have--but I would eat the deposit from parochial school if she got in...very hard as a parent to make this much effort- and come up short- i suppose its better than 4 rejections but 4 wait list? Yeesh and then 4 not likelys...
aint easy..

Waitlistman - besides Episcopalian affiliation, what else are you looking for in a school for your daughter?

Lots of Episcopalian affiliated boarding schools out there - probably the most common religious affiliation.

Of course not many with rolling admissions. Holderness comes to mind though, but it may be a bit low on the academic side from your daughter's stats. But unfortunately, that is what you are going to find at this point in the year.

Thanks, welcome any advice from many knowledgeable posters.. I knew Middlesex was not safe but given we did not ask for FA I felt that for us to pay this it would be for only a TOP ps..but Concord Academy was a big mistake to cancel...application fatigue with 6 applications...
It all works out eventually but just feels wrong as of now..

No- I am actually only a confirmed Episcopalian--sshhh- i am a Buddhist!!
So to me religious affiliation is NOT an issue at all..
its not an obstacle...the Catholic HS is actually pretty decent academically but the class sizes etc. can not compete--25 say as opposed to 11...
I am open to all ideas...but it would need to still be academically competitive and I think you are right that at this point the best we will get is yet another wait list spot...want to stay in MA and Noble, Worcester Academy etc. are all likely to only yeild more wait lists...PA told me that in a couple of days teh SSAT site will post schools accepting late applications -at that time will go through that list and what people suggest here..
much obliged..
waitlistman..lol

All the schools said that applications and the yields were very high..just my luck..

Waitlistman, I feel your pain. I have a daughter in her third year at Middlesex, so i thought my second daughter would have an advantage in getting in. NOPE! She was waitlisted. Smile I guess she was politely waitlisted versus outright rejected. I still love Middlesex and it is an awesome school.

How about all girls schools? Is that an option your daughter would consider? It seems the all girls' schools provide a wonderful education but they seem to have a less competitive application pool.

Sorry that this happened to you and your daughter. You're not the only one it happened to. They just have more qualified applicants than they have spots for them. There are a number of girls' boarding schools that are top quality but just out of fashion right now. I think many of them might still have spots. You can go to www.boardingschoolreview.com and look for schools with rolling admissions after the first round of admissions. In early May, the ssat website will list schools that still have openings (scca list). Based on your list of schools, it looks like you are from MA. Did you consider Kent in CT? It's possible that they still have openings, but I don't know this for a fact. Same with Pomfret which is close to the MA border. They are both quality Episcopal schools. Take a look at Berkshire School. My son goes to Blair Academy, which is in northern NJ. It's a wonderful school that would be very competitive if it were in New England. These schools offer a top-notch education. They accept a range of students, so your daughter should find classmates just as bright as she is; at the same time, if she applies herself, she could be in the top 10-20% of her class -- something that is hard to do at the most competitive schools. Good luck!

No, I only applied to these three schools and everyone seems booked. choate and deerfield just practically rejected me. it really sucks, but for all of you out there like me, I feel your pain! my parents are so mad right now even if its not my fault saying 'whatifs' and argh..

Thanks very much, will begin the process if with a bit more trepidation than last time...nothing is easy in life....these are NOT bad problems to have but frustrating when you are so close..

Miss Halls has rolling admissions, if you are considering all-girls.

As painful as it is getting rejected or not getting off a waitlist, try to see if you can get an answer from your admissions contact about what may have caused your non-admission or how you could make an application stronger. It could prove invaluable as you look at other schools for this year or if you decide to reapply next year.
