I got in - heard a few days ago. Woohoo I'm excited!

crypto--looking at your profile I can see why you got in. Hope you choose to attend.

took me 4 weeks to hear including 1 week of winter break. So that might count as 3 if no one worked on crhistmas and new years and stuff.

Out of state with a 1280 SATs. My scores suck but most people would jerk off while looking at my ECs.

Application sent in: 1/3
Application processed: 1/4
Decision posted on website: 1/22

Sorry, I don't post stats or information on acceptances/denials on CC.

I got accepted! Yay! Now I just have to wait till April to see where else I got in...

this is insane, i still haven't gotten a word from the admission office that they have processed my application...

what is going on with my effing app? I submitted it in november and STILL haven't heard ... sent them the missing materials ages ago, now they're listing something missing when I sent it in the SAME evelope as my HS diploma which is listed as received.

this is giving me ulcers. UW-M is my safety school, if I don't get in I might as well shoot myself.

bump. is anyone else besides myself and tenniscraze having the same problem?

:( i'm worrying, but anyways i still have to send my TOEFL scores...

I got my letter back today-

"After a careful consideration by our committee on Admissions, we have postponed a final decision on your application for admission to the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Each year we receive applications from many more students than we have space to accommodate in our freshman class. We are thus forced to delay final decisions for some students until we can determine available space. All applications that have been postponed will be reviewed again, and a final decision will be made no later than March 15"

I guess I got deferred/Waitlisted? Anyways... I'm sure that if anyone else got this they will probably take my position :P. I got AABBCC for my first semester senior year grades (with only 2 advanced courses) and I have to send my midyear grades. Oh Well its worth a shot.

applied:11/29
accepted: 1/30 (maybe a couple of days earlier than that. i checked my online status on 30th and it said i got admitted..)

out of states(canada), international

i was surprised to find out since when i called the office on 27th, they said that all the international applications would be reviewed in Feb since they had just finished transfer applications.
Wisc is my safety school but i'm relieved to have a place to go if i get rejected from all the other shools.

btw, does anyone know if this acceptance is conditional or unconditional?
thanx.

should be unconditional which is the case for all American unis.

mine took about 5.5 weeks.. i think they said 8, so it was pretty quick

applied: 1/1/05 (something like that)
admitted: 2/9/05

tenniscraze: what do u mean all american univ are unconditional? i'm pretty sure that the opposite is true.. all universities (that i know) say that they reserve the right to rescind admission if you don't keep up the work, etc. I would think wisconsin would be the same way.. this was the only public school i applied to, so i dont know that much about them, but wisconsin probably gets so many apps that they really couldnt care less if ur grades drop a lot, unless u fail everythign of course..

anyway.. my 2cents

D got deferred.

for anyone interested:
GPA 3.3 unw
SAT 1350
ACT 30
SAT II can't remember but they were pretty good, not crazy good
4 yr student council, junior class prez, JV softball, captain and varsity golf
loads of community service but not in leadership roles
from California public HS, ranked 200/850

no real surprise about deferral as competitive as wisconsin is these days. happy to get that letter rather than you know what. deferral letter said final decision will be on April 15th, i believe.

good luck to all, at UW and other choices.

"it's not where you go, it's what you do"

Norweejunwood --
Sorry that your daughter was not accepted. When did she apply? Her stats are not that different from many students that were accepted but with rolling admissions, perhaps she just applied later than others. Once other admissions/finaid decisions are out, some students who were accepted via rolling admissions may go elsewhere, opening up slots for those who were deferred. I would be suprised if your daughter did not receive an admit letter in mid-April.

boxmaker1917:

Incidentally, Wisconsin does not use the earliness (or lateness) of your application as a factor in admission. Most people assume that it does because other rolling schools such as UMich do this.

Read their counselor's newsletters. They explicitly say that there is no difference between applying October 31st and applying February 1st.

box -

thanks for the kind note. she applied at the end of november or early december, i think. could've had impact but no she has no regrets. she filed when she was ready. SAT IIs were 710 verbal and 690 math. can't recall other portion. she is assuming she is a goner and anything to the contrary will be good news and would warrant a visit. she has two cousins who went to madison, classes of 2003 and 2005, and they have nothing but great things to say about the college, the people, the education, and the experience. heck, i should apply.

take care.

correction: deferral letter said final decision no later than March 15th, not April. sooner than we think.

Sabnetwork -- I can't dispute your view that the date of application is not important except from the perspective of logic. Many students apply in September and October and are admitted before Christmas. At some point, there are no more openings so someone with better stats applies could be denied admission, based on the date of their application. That's just how rolling admissions works: the sooner you apply, the sooner you get your decision.

http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/hsnews/hsnewsfall04.pdf Look at Page 2.

February 1 is our application deadline for fall admission. Every complete application received on or by February 1 receives equal consideration as the applications we receive earlier in the process. Applications received on September 15 (opening day) and February 1 (the deadline) go through the same review process and are subject to the same admission expectations. If the same qualified student were to send us an application on September 15 or February 1, they would be just as likely
to be admitted regardless of the date. That being said, there are two advantages to applying earlier in the September to February continuum: (1) since we practice rolling admissions, the student will receive an admission decision from us sooner and be able to proceed with his or her college plans accordingly, and (2) if there is a problem with the application (such as a missing transcript or test score), we have time to correct it before the deadline.

boxmaker1917:

Your generalization is often true, but doesn't apply to UW-Madison. Madison doesn't have enough housing for their entire freshman class anyways; they rely on private dorms and such. The size of the class isn't a big concern.
Also, they adjust their admission rate according to the predicted number of applications.

norweejunwood:

I forget the exact numbers (check the counselor newsletters), but a large percentage of deferees get accepted at UW-M. IIRC, it's around 50%. Your D still has a good chance, especially with those SATs. Her class rank is important, though.
