Any one interview here?

I'm going for an interview tomorrow, im so nervous! Thanks for your help.

michelec,

How did the interview go? What did you think of Ursinus?

to xtx: my interview went really well! It was really laid back, we just sat in his office and he asked me to tell him some stuff about the activities I'm involved in, stuff like that. It wasn't long, it was more informative for me. I love the school, especially the fact 90% get into med school, and the schools strong bio dept. It is a really nice campus in a great area. If you have any specific ?'s let me know! Good Luck xtx!

yea i interviewed that too..are you guys interested in the pre-med early assurance thing? thats the main thing that attracted me to the school

Ha, I wish my SAT's arent good enough for that. I just like the school, I'm probably gonna do pre-med, just w/o the ea thing. Its really nice, and I think I'll probably get in, the deciding factor for these private schools for me is if i get enough money to attend.

Who did you interview with? The VP of Enrollment, who called me for my phone interview, was very pleasant and laid back.

Hey! I'm excited to see someone interested in Ursinus on these boards!!! I interviewed with Jamal who was very friendly :). I hope i get i lot of fin aid or else i can't go here :(.

Ditto, I wasn't expecting any other Ursinus folks to be here either. I guess we interviewed with different people...at any rate, I know what you mean about the money...it costs almost as much as Harvard and the Ivies, it's ridiculous. From what I hear, they're usually pretty generous; everyone I know that goes there received at least a little money--one got $5,000, another got $12,000, and another got the same $25,000 merit scholarship that I did. So I'm sure you'll get something.

i got the 25k scholarship to and i think im also going to get into the early assurance program...is it worth it?!

25k!!! How'd you get that? They said they waived sat scores in schloarship consideration, and I have a 4.0 so i dont see why i only got 14,000. :(

LisaSimpsonReborn--did you get the Zacharias, or one of the others like the Tower?

michelec--I don't know exactly what they base it on. I have a 3.9, fairly strong extracurriculars (service clubs with leadership positions, band president, marched in the Rose Bowl parade, stuff like that), 1380 SAT scores (though those don't matter in the scholarship decisions, like you said), and had decent essays. I applied Early Decision--and I mean really early, like in October--and they replied to me via email within a week of receiving my application to notify me of my acceptance and scholarship.

The thing is, I have a good friend in PA that applied ED, too, but at the regular time. She's just as active with extracurriculars as I am, if not moreso, and has excellent grades. We basically both had practically identical credentials. In the end, though, she got the same $14,000 scholarship you did.

Why? My theory is that it's because I'm part Asian--I'm helping to fill up their required minority slots--and because I'm probably the first student from Hawaii to ever attend Ursinus. By accepting me and giving me the financial means to actually attend, they're giving themselves the ability to say that they have students from one more state than they did before. Then there's the fact that I showed immense interest from a very early date--I was hounding them back in September--and I made it evident that Ursinus was my first choice.

yea, colleges are always aiming to be more diverse. ttyl :)

yea im pakistani and showed a lot of interest..but they gave me 15k until i became a national merit finalist, which is what they said bumped me up to 25k

Oh, I see...congratulations on being a national merit finalist! Also shows how much being a minority can do for you.

So you'll be attending?

haha im still not sure. although its very tempting to accept the (almost) free ride and everything, i kind of feel like im settling for drexel med when i can go to a different liberal arts school (like swarthmore), do well, and maybe end up at a better med school. not better as in ranking or prestige or anything, just better as in someplace i would like better. even though i like ursinus, i didnt connect at all with drexel med...its a very tough decision! you're lucky that you found a college you loved early and don't have to make this decision now that its crunchtime. are you coming to the capstone orientation event on friday?

couldnt u just go to ursinus, and not do the program with drexel? you could surely go to another med school that way.

Nope, won't be at Capstone. I live in Hawaii, it'd be quite the (expensive) journey. :)

That's too bad, too, that Ursinus didn't really click with you...but then, if you have the opportunity to go to a place like Swarthmore and you like it better, then it shouldn't be too hard to decide.

no no..ursinus DID click with me, and so did swarthmore..they're both very very similar schools. the only thing is, i love both of them. if i go to swarthmore, id be going to a more challenging and more prestigious school which would help me get into a better med school. if i go to ursinus, it would be cheaper, and i already have early assurance to drexel med, but i didnt click with drexel med, so i would have to apply out, which would be a big hassle and since ursinus isnt as well-known as swarthmore i might have a tougher time getting into a good med school. so i dont know what to do!! plus i know like two people from my school who're going to ursinus so it would be easier to adjust having a couple familiar faces (lol although im sure you wont know anybody there and it might be a huge shock when winter rolls around :P)

Hmmm. lol...I really have no good advice, considering I'm an English major and therefore completely unfamiliar with any of the med programs.

That's really cool to hear that Ursinus is like Swarthmore. The whole prestige thing bothers me, though...like if I were to go to a school like that (I could've, but chose not to), I'd be afraid of the kind of people I'd be forced to live with and stuff like that. I'm a little annoyed with one of my friends, who was really set on going to a small LAC but then changed her mind once she'd been accepted to some Ivies. I just get the feeling that the quality of life would be a lot different at the "prestigious" schools, and if it were me, that would factor in a lot. Besides that, though, I do know Ursinus has a pretty darn high rate of graduate school admission, and that it'd be an Ivy League school by now if it had its own graduate program (however, supposedly one will soon be introduced).

Sorry, I'm not too good with advice. :P

And as far as knowing people and winter...It's actually pretty funny. My boyfriend and another good friend both go there...though the decision for me to attend had nothing to do with that, as bogus as that sounds (good financial aid can make the decisions for you :D). Winter'll be crazy...I visited over Christmas break, and it was cold but not snowy, so I have yet to experience that.
