My son just got admission letter and said he has been selected as a Michelson-Morely Scholarship of $20K per year for 4 yr undergrad if retention requirement met. Based on Case tuition of $36K/yr, I still need to pay $16K/yr + room/board, but my son got University of Pittsburgh full tuition scholarship, they also invite him to apply Chancelor Scholarship which will cover room/board and books.

Does any one know if Case give full tuition scholarship? Is the $20K is the maximum scholarship in that school? Will the school give further invitation for further aids?

Same situation with my S. The maximum merit CWRU seems to have given in this admission cycle seems to be $20K. Basically it means the cost of attendance has come down by that amount. I am presuming that any need based aid will be based on EFC. Pitt is looking more attractive from $ perspective!

Well if your income is not high your son can get some money from case (is not loans). Its called case grant aid, which might help but then you will still have to pay an average of 10000 a year (pretty much room and board), but if your son joins a fraternity later in his studies and decides to live in the fraternity house, he could be going to Case for free. Case is also a very good school and is starting to get a lot of recognition around the country. The Class of 2015 increased the rate of our applications by 50% so case is becoming very very competitive.

We don’t qualify for any FA. S loves Case and got same $20K but a balance of $31K a year is pretty steep when compared to our StateU (12K/yr after free tuition award).

They do, but it gets very competitive. However, there are grants available as well and you can find loans that are not need based. It is well worth the money.

DS was lucky to get the scholarship Colorado_mom is talking about last year. But his stats pale in comparison with many that received much less this year (3.6/3.9 and a 2290 SAT). It could be that they chose to offer less to more, or they just had less to give out.

The $27,500 ("Trustee’s Scholarship) has actually been discontinued for students entering CWRU in 2011 and beyond. The maximum merit-based non-full tuition scholarship is now the $20,000 scholarship already mentioned. That said, there are a few (as in less than 5? I am not sure exactly) full tuition scholarships available. But they are from special funds, as I understand it, and not everyone will qualify for them (as in, one might only be available for nursing students, etc. I do not know the exact details)

(Although the highest ‘regular’ merit-scholarship was reduced, the value of the lowest one was increased. The rationale was that a student with both need based and merit-based aid would often find the need-based aid exceeded the merit aid, and so they wouldn’t actually receive anything for having the merit scholarship, so they increased the minimum value of the lower scholarship so more students would benefit from it. I have no idea how this will actually end up working, this is just what I was told.)

(My source by the way is from a public meeting with the Provost and other university officials, but for personal financial concerns, you should always consult with the appropriate office!)

I got $10,000 for nursing. It’s called the francis payne bolton scholarship. I also got $28,500 in general scholarships (merit + need). $5000 from Pell Grant.
