Any one submitting an Art portfolio/supplement?

I'm just wonder if any others are submitting an Art supplement. If so, how many pieces are u submitting, and what type (photography, painting-realism, painting-abstract, painting-impressionism/other, drawing, and what not, you get the point)? I have two completely different styles (painting-impressionism mixed with collage, and photo-realism charcoals), so my submission is going to include both styles equally. And also, does princeton require slides? Because some schools are just as happy with CDs.

I submitted wildlife/landscape photos. An art professor/expert in the field that you submit will look at it, evaluate it, and then pass on his/her note to the admissions office.

The important point here is that a qualified professional/distinguished academic will be judging your work, not the admissions office.

So need to worry about admissions officers not knowing how to look for subtle detail/other traits.

Is there any case that it would hurt to submit art?

No. Even if it's terrible, all that means is that it won't be a plus factor. If it's good, however, there's more potential for that making a difference now than ever before because of the new Arts Initiative.

See http://www.princeton.edu/pr/reports/arts/ for the background of the Initiative and http://www.princeton.edu/arts/ for the new Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. Part of the reasoning behind the current expansion of the student body is to make space for more students with significant interest and talent in the Arts.

I would definitely recommend sending in an arts supplement. I would have sent in a dance video but instead took an audition class at Princeton (which is just as good if not better). As some of the above posters have said, even if your arts supplement isn't that great, it'll still give you a bit of an edge.

That's awesome. I have a sketchbook I could send in, I don't have any formal training so my skills are very raw, but it's good to know it won't work against me.
Thanks abiste and hbarns.
