Hey guys, i'm an incoming EE freshman. I decided to choose one of the private certified housings to get kinda better facilities and environment. I found the Hendrick house was in the engineering quad, plus being not far from the main quad. But it seems no one here has talked about there, so can any hendrick residents show me some first hand information?(facility, quiet or not, party scenes in the dorms or not, typical student body.....) thanks,^_^.

I’m not a Hendrick resident yet, but I will be this upcoming fall :). I’m an incoming freshman as well. I’ve visited the place and it seems pretty nice. The environment is clean and the rooms looked decent. It’s a quiet place but if you’re interested in partying, 6-pack is the dorm to be in.

The typical student body is consists of 62% freshmen, 26% sophomore, 6% juniors, and 5% seniors. Male to female ratio is 3:1 (75% male, 25% female). The type of people that dorm there are the Engineering and the LAS people. More information can be found if you just check out their site at [Welcome to Hendrick House on the University of Illinois Campus at Urbana-Champaign!](http://www.hendrickhouse.com/)

I think it’s a good friendly place to be in for incoming freshmen :). I’ll look forward to see you there!

thanks, Promemorex.haha, I’m looking forward to seeing u there too, thank u so much for the soon reply. ^_^.
It seems i’ve made a right choice, for I 'm not that much of a greek-oriented guy. I am just looking for somewhere relatively quiet. thanks again.

Hey I am a freshmen staying at Hendrick too. I visited last week when I had my registration. Are you guys staying at the East / West building? I requested to stay with a business student, so I probably won’t be rooming with you guys! I was told the rooming assignment is out pretty soon.

Hey, Beavk. Thanks for your info. You know what, since I started my housing application quite late, they just had the East Doubles, which are the cheapest, available. So I’m at East, and what about you? Have you seen your rooms? How’s the feeling? I will much appreciate it if you can be more detailed, thanks alot. ^_^

Hendricks House is pretty quiet and laid back. The big party dorms are FAR/PAR and the Six Pack. Alan, I am a going to be a junior EE and I would like to say welcome to the department. Hendricks isn’t too far from the engineer quad and right across from ISR where alot of engineers stay. For your first year at least being close to the engineering quad won’t matter since you’ll probably have just as many gen eds as ECE classes.

thanks UIUCfinest, your info is really the finest, haha.
Yes, I do care about how quiet the rooms are and it seems I’ve made up the right thing. For what reason, do you think, the westrooms are more expensive than the east ones generally? (I’m staying in the East Building).

One of my friends used to live in Hendrick house on the east side. I’m not exactly sure what the difference is, but i think the west rooms have better windows/a better view of the area. His room faced the gas station on the corner of green + lincoln, which needless to say was a lil depressing.

Ahh… I see.I start to pray for not living in your friend’s room…,anyway, thanks alot for your info, kevercho.
Anyone else who knows something about it?

I lived in Hendrick House the past 2 years, this upcoming year I’m in an apartment, but Ill answer any questions you guys have about the dorm.

For the most part HH is an engineering and computer science dorm, not too many LAS majors. There are two sides to the dorm, east and west. West side rooms are larger and nicer, but there are only 6 rooms per floor, so socialization is minimal compared to the east side where there are 25 rooms per floor. The kitchen and cafeteria is brand new, just built and renovated a year ago, very nice. Food is great as well when when compared to university housing food. RA’s can be chill, but if you decide to be a nuisance and cause problems (noise/drinking), it isnt hard to get on their bad side.

PROS- The rooms are very nice on both the east and west side, nicer than any campus owned dorms. Food is great and the staff is very friendly and understanding. Dorm is close to engineering quad, not “on” it. Its not even a 10 min walk to the main quad. There are two rooms to a suite and a bathroom in between them, so you only share the shower with 3 other people. If you want a quiet environment to study and do hw, its perfect.

CONS- Most of the residents here are engineers and for the most part it can be a little anti-social. There are some people who are quiet and just keep to themselves. You won’t find much partying or drinking here, if there is you prob won’t hear about it. For guys, beware, this dorm is a total “sausage fest”, the past 2 years, girls were rare and made the entire dorm very depressing, that was my biggest regret about staying here.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I am staying at the east double too. I saw the rooms and thought they were kinda small. But I haven’t seen a campus dorm before. The consensus from current student is that HH rooms are definitely larger than campus dorms. I sent you private message with my contact info :)

Well, compared to ISR across the street, Hendrick rooms are a bit longer but they’re narrower too. It also depends if you like the fold-out futons for beds in Hendrick, or bunk beds in the dorms (the dorm beds can be lofted too). 4 people (two doubles) share a bathroom in Hendrick, and there aren’t locks, but I don’t know what the dynamics of that situation are really like. I lived at Allen and our bathrooms got cleaned daily - I could always find an empty toilet or shower stall - but of course I had to share with some of the nastier residents on my floor.

wats up guys havnt used this forum in a while but just looked cause i was bored… me and my 2 friends will be rooming in HH because we applied to housing late and were scared of being put in temporary or if not together so should be a fun year… never seen the HH rooms but im sure they r just like any others. If u guys want to hang out just let me know…
