Hi,
Son is doing his essay applications (& is coming up w/some great ideas on his own...now that I've gotten myself out of the process!!).

Just thinking...seems like essays could be significant in son's case, since his stats are uneven (high test scores, average/not great gpa). The essays could (hopefully) be used to tip things in his favor at more reach-type schools.

Has anyone's son/daughter used an essay editing website they've found helpful? I'm envisioning son would write the essays to his complete satisfaction--then seek minor editing from outside sources familiar w/the college app style/process.

If anyone had any thoughts, I'd appreciate!

It's probably best for him to write his essay in his own style. He can then ask a trusted teacher or family friend to proofread and comment. My sense is that Admissions people are pretty attuned to essays that have been tweaked by experts.

I think that CC offers a service like that. I would look into using them first as they do such a great job here. They just posted a new link on essay's that gives you an idea of what they do.

Thanks, cadbury & 2by2! I saw that site on CC and reviewed the essay advice (told son he should check it out after he writes his essay). That's where I got the idea of having someone else take a look (CC employees described how they helped some students express their voice more clearly, etc.). No response when I emailed CC, though (seems like maybe that service isn't offered any more? that part of website was down..)

Since Hobsons took over College Confidential in June, CC no longer offers paid counseling services. The former CC counseling staff members are now available at CollegeKarma.com

You can Private Message me for more information, if you wish. You'll also find a link at the bottom of the CC home page, which is here:
