thanks in advance.

This is what i've heard, i asked a friend who went to Madison a few years ago.

"chadborne is the honors dorm. best location. have only heard good things about it from all my friends...it has a few more restrictions than the rest of the dorms, but it's one heck of a dorm.
ogg sucks, but sellery and witte are pretty awesome. i'd live in sellery before witte, but witte before ogg. they might have improved some of the amenities in the dorms since i graduated, but i'm just letting you know what i remember from 2002...
then there's lakeshore...i'd steer away from lakeshore. you can also live in the women's dorm, which is the biggest and closest to everything, but it's also a little bit wierd only living with women"

hope this helps...is anyone else scrambling to fill out the housing forms by Mondya?

Hm why would you try to fill out housing forms by Monday? Is there something special about that date?

"then there's lakeshore...i'd steer away from lakeshore."

if you prefer a lower concentration of drunken retards pick lakeshore

yeah i have to send it in by Monday, because i heard back in like Nov, and if i want to be guaranteed housing * my * forms need to postmarked by Monday. iMost people have much later dates, but i heard back way earlier. I gues once you are guaranteed housing they draw lots, so I'm as likely to get the dorm i want as someone who heardback in Marh...does that make sense?

Yeah, it is a lottery. Just get it in on time. I lived in Witte. It is the same building style as sellery mostly.

okay can someone please tell me wat is soooo bad bout OGG coz i was leaning towards it coz its open during winter break and going home may not always be possible for me !!!

Also its not that Im antisocial or anything but- i would like to party yes but i dont think i wanna be surrrounded by "drunken retards" as quoted by someone 24/7? is ogg really that bad

which hall is maybe a better option ?

oGG will be torn down after this year which means it will get minimal maintenance. I'd avoid it for that alone.

sellery, witte, and ogg have reputations as being more of the loud, party dorms. They're really big (like 12 stories tall) but have pretty good locations. The lakeshore dorms are much farther away but are known for having more of a community feel since they are smaller, all only about 3 stories each. It just depends what you're looking for.

ok, so i have a good feel for each dorms personality, but what are the arrangements within the actual dorms, are the dorms integrated or separated in terms of class (i know bradley is all freshmen but besides that), what does co-ed by wing mean?, any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

"Co-ed by wing" means co-ed by floor, with the exception of liz waters (all female), and kronsage, which is 10+ buildings all clumped together to make one "dorm". At kronsage the buildings are co-ed by floor except for one of the buildings which is an all boys dorm. Girls will live on 2,4 6, ect., and boys live on 1,3,5, ect, in all dorms. Each floor in a dorm has a different name, and the people at housing call these floors "wings", though no one else does. Each floor, or wing has its own R.A, and activities.

None of the dorms are separated by class, except for the ones that are specifically for upperclassmen alone. Even Bradley has sophomores and a smattering of juniors living there. Basically, one can live in a dorm indefinately, but very few people do after soph. or even frosh years, b/c they find people to get an apartment with. I'm a sophomore, and I live in kronsage (last year I lived in Liz Waters), and I have everyone from freshman to seniors living in my unit.

And not to burst anyone's bubble about the southeast dorms, but if you value academics and studying, space, peace, and quiet, avoid ogg, sellery and witte. They are fondly known to students here as "the projects". They have the smallest rooms on campus, noisy parties going on M-F until 3am, are generally pretty dirty (stains on rugs, walls, ect.) and I've never gone a weekend without seeing people passed out on the stairs. Just an FYI. However. If you are a partier, the southeast dorms are the best. 1 minute's walk from all the state street bars, clubs, ect., and all the frats leave party invites in the ogg/sellery/witte mailboxes. They're very far from classes, however, which is killer in the winter (as in right now, as it's -10 or something outside.)

nattiebee, Why did you leave liz walters to go to kronsage?

I know people @ Witte and such....

Look, Thurs-Sunday there is partying. It's not "drunk retards" but people do drink there on weekends. I disagree that the rest of the school week is the same.
