I received a short, 1 page letter in the mail today from Columbia which writes as follows:

Dear mdeziz,

Congratulations on your acceptance to Columbia University!

As the Columbia admissions officer responsible for your region, I was the first person to read your application, and I spoke about you at great length during the committee process. I am therefore especially excited to welcome you to the Columbia community.

.
.
.

it goes on a couple more paragraphs talking about what Columbia's looking for, etc, how I'm a great match, but no specifics. It ends with what looks like a handwritten signature and "Congratulations, Mdeziz!" next to it.

I must admit, this letter makes me feel awfully special, which is obviously its purpose, but I can't help but make the conclusion that it is a generic letter sent out through the region's admission officers.

This doesn't affect my decision at all, my first choice has been Columbia anyways, but I was wondering if anyone else gotten a letter like this from their local admissions officer?

did your guys’ letters have the exact same wording? cause mine focused on the fact that the admission officer fought for my spot in the acceptance pile.

tristan - I’m sure yours is coming soon, then! =)

My son received that same letter last week(got an email version too). He doesn’t care; Columbia was his first choice. Only the top 10% get in He was in the top 8%. CU has his major and path to his career goals that’s all he cares about.
