Any other freshman here, or am i by myself?

We can't even do that in our school, even if we're qualified. We can take AP Euro in 10th, which I am. In 8th and 9th we're only aloud to take honors, and there's only four honors classes. I too am taking the most rigorous course load possible in my grade.

Im not sure exactly why I really want to go Stanford !?! Just a combination of the climate ( complete opposite to the UK), the great med school reputation , the great reputation for taking care of undergraduates and supporting research etc. But still I would love to go to any great university (Harvard, Yale , MIT etc).

Harvard SSP, Iv ordered the brochure off the Internet and Im going to look into dates. I REALLY want to go cause it sounds really fun and useful. The only worry I have is asking for recs from my teachers as in the UK it isnt encouraged to start thinking about uni untill you are 17 !

Im a freshman!- dont know what i'm doing at Harvard section cuz i will never get in

you've got time...i guess...if you really want to get it in

helpmegetin, are you a freshman too? Ozzy, if you're a freshman and on this site it shows that you want to get in, and this site and others information that is given on this site can help you get in. You do have time, plenty of it, and if you try hard enough, you'd be able to get in. Another thing is, colleges don't rely on freshman grades to make their decisions at all.

Even Harvard? I know that Stanford and Princeton recalculate your GPA w/o freshmen grades...

How do they have time to recalculate your grades? That would take a lot of time to go through every applicant...

They mite get rid of the applicants that applied who had no chance and then recalculated the grades w/out your freshman grades included into it, any freshman out there, what's your gpa around?

I think all colleges recalculate your GPA (because a lot of schools calculate differently. for example, my highschool doesnt weigh honors classes, but a lot of schools do. some schools do grades by x+ or -, while others just give x). it's important to have gpa's calculated similarly (removing PE classes I believe is also done, and at stanford and princeton freshman grades are crossed out). also, I'm sure bpk1 is right and they eliminate many applicants beforehand (maybe by judging their ec's first?)

my gpa is about a 3.85 right now (not the greatest...)

im a freshman

East, are you a freshman too? And a gpa of 3.85 isn't that bad at all, it could be better, but if your school weighted honors classes your gpa would be very good. The colleges you apply to mite weight your honors and ap classes, because most schools weight the honors/ap courses. At my school, honors classes are weighted 10% and ap classes are weighted 15%.

Bump (10 char)

I'm a freshman and the least i can get is 90% and the max is 95%, i am not taking any honor classes but will enroll in the IB Diploma Program in grade 10. What is my grades in GPA format?????

By the way i would advise anyone trying to take the Harvard SSP that it is a complete waste of money, and it would not raise your chances for admission for the Ivies, instead research at your local university and not only do universities welcome highschoolers it is something that Harvard appreciates more than it's own program.

sonbac, on what scale, 4.0 or 100? My school gives me my weighted and only my weighted grade and it's out of 100 not 4.0.

hey bpk1, I'M A FRESHMAN!!!! Checke out THE 'HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN THREAD'.
