We received a letter from U of Richmond asking us to write a letter to tell them about our child--just curious if anyone else has received a similar request.

Received and responded to one from Duke, that the regional adcom suggested really made a difference.

Yes, my parents received one. Actually, I think someone already asked this question on here and it was concluded that every parent receives this letter.

I don’t recall receiving a letter for my D, who applied RD this year, or for my son who applied RD 2 years ago (and now attends UR.)

I was accepted ED this year and my parents never got a letter.

Okay, well, I really don’t know how they decide who gets this letter. I was just going off of what the previous thread said.

Sorry for the misinformation.

It’s correct that all incoming students applying RD receive a letter. I can’t speak for the Early Decision group. It is a new policy instituted by President Ayres last year. They didn’t do this before last year. If you missed the letter, call the admissions office. They really do want to hear from the parents.

D applied RD and we have not received a received a request for a letter. Perhaps they send the requests in waves, or perhaps they do not require a letter from every applicant. If they truly require one from every RD applicant, I don’t know why it isn’t mentioned in all the admissions info.

The letter isn’t required; it’s optional. They said it won’t hurt you if your parents opt not to send it in.

We received the letter about the letter. Today we decided not to send one in. Richmond has fallen to 7th place with Son (out of 9). So, it’s not mission critical in his case. :o

It is the student who is being admitted, not the parents. That said… it was a nice opportunity to show more insight or nuance on S or D applying, especially at a smaller schools like UR where they spend a lot of time going over applicants. Go SPYDERS for offering parents on sidelines a chance to share !

Applies for intl students as well?

Following up on my previous post, #4, I received the parent recommendation letter yesterday. I don’t know if I’ll send in a statement. If I do it won’t be lengthy. She’s already been notified of being a Richmond scholar semifinalist and I assume she will be admitted.

Thank you for everyone’s comments. I’m trying to write the letter now…

@standrews: That was my assumption as well, but on other posts other members have stated that only finalists are guaranteed admission. Best of luck to your daughter!
