Can I get a what what??

yep…count casa Thressdad in on this one; though the rolling app went in at 11:58 PM last night.

You are not alone. I get a bit jealous reading the other threads on CC where the other kids are working diligently on their apps.

Well, since this is the early rounds, if they don’t take the initiative and get them in for early consideration, they will be the ones applying with the Regular pool and sitting on pins and needles until April. Consequences…

That is my feeling too. You can’t care about this stuff more than the actual college student does. That’s a recipe for madness!!

While it seems the HS has backed off on homework understanding the seniors need to be working on their apps etc, S1 seems to have picked up a bunch of new interests and projects. EA/ED is off the table for sure. UC is now due in a month. Common App and MIT in two. I can’t watch. Someone call me when it’s over.

Check . . . at least we’re not aiming for any November 1st or 15th deadlines. Everything by December 1st but sooner is better. I have been telling DS that really means everything in before Thanksgiving.

I bit the bullet and ordered all scores sent last night. I even sent scores and ordered transcripts for the couple places on the bubble just to know that it was done if he really does throw his application hat in the ring for another safety or two. I’m sure it does nothing for his psyche but it makes me feel better. :-w

I think most kids who are busy filling out applications are doing EA/ED or trying for scholarships where you have to apply early.

Essay writing is beyond excruciating in our house. One short essay took hours and hours to finish. We’re visiting a school tomorrow that requires a personal statement and an essay- I’m really hoping he hates it so he doesn’t have to do any more writing. Needless to say, DS is pretty much applying to large schools that don’t require essays. I admire all those students who are working on multiple essays.

@saintfan, Thanksgiving will be the big push here too. Shhh – D2 doesn’t yet know it yet. She has other things taking up her time until then. There is one Nov 15 EA to do, but it’s not on CA so the CA essay doesn’t have to be final. She submitted a rolling admissions application last week. She should hear officially from them in the next couple weeks, at which point we can say that she’ll be going somewhere.

I have to take a deep breath about the delays. D1 played it close to the deadlines on her applications. In the end, she got better results than anyone expected and is very happy at her school.

One more essay for tomorrow. It’s almost done. I’ve had to negotiate every weekend for a certain number of minutes for my son to pay attention to me and tackle a to-do list. One more essay tomorrow, then we get a few days to breathe. He wants to go to college, but this process is mind numbing. The industry has made it brutally painful.
Plus, our HS just went live on Naviance about 4 weeks ago. Getting recc letters and reports for EA was excruciating. I tag teamed with other parents talking to all the counselors, career center, private counselors trying to figure it out. It was sheer madness, but, just checked CA and the doc’s appear to be submitted.
So tonight, I enjoy a glass of wine and look to CC to see if anyone else can relate.

Ditto, pushing everything to the last minute. @patertrium, I wish our high school would back off the homework. Son has had more homework this semester tha he has ever had during his high school career. Just two more months to go!

Our school has switched over to Naviance since D went through apps 3 years ago and so far I’m hating it. Sooooo many hoops to jump through in triplicate to get transcripts sent etc. It seems like it’s harder than just inviting teachers through the common app.

We have audition and pre-screen recordings to do and upload as well plus another layer of recs. No fun! I can make it 4 more weeks, though, I’m almost sure of it.

Hang in there, guys.
This is just par for the course (for most kids anyway).
I was lucky that my boss has gone thru this process before and suggested to us to get a private counselor to put some distance between us and our offsprings during this trying time. It was the best 1000 dollars spent. The counselor acted as a “nagger” to make sure that important things were done in a timely manner - I think my kids take the counselor much more seriously.
I went to lunch with my old VP the other day and he is going thru the same thing with his kid. He said that currently at home, he could cut the tension with a knife. X_X

Actually, I do not blame the kids. I am currently in the review cycle at work and has to produce annual reviews for the direct staff. I find the whole process excruciating. I should be doing the review but instead I am trolling on CC. L-)

What is the damn purpose of the common app essay if all the schools then have those maddening supplements with 2 and sometimes 3 more essays? Just give them a few short answer questions in the supp and be done with it already. Yes, I am going out of my mind proofing essays.

Honestly, I think with all the tours, applications, essays, recommendations, interviews and resumes the whole college application process has spun out of control. Someone needs to put the brakes on.
Everyone in my house is exhausted!

@furrydog $1000 sounds pretty reasonable. A past co-worker was trying to get me to use a $4,000 counselor who’s supposed to work scholarship magic. Good luck with the reviews! That is stressful when I’ve had to do it. I usually had the reports write their own and then I’d fine tune and rate.

We used to have a thread that listed schools that do not require any essays for their applications. Maybe we need to revive that thread (although I find searching on CC more difficult since the “upgrade.”)

@mom2collegekids Thank goodness for UC. No recommendations, no transcripts until spring and just two essays which have to total no more than 1000 words. And in some progress - one of the UC essays is now reviewed and complete!
