I'm a rising HS senior and figured out the end of my soph year that I want to go into psychology. I'm not precisely sure where in the field, but most likely academia. I plan on pursuing my PhD shortly after undergrad.

So I was just interested if there are any other potential/current psych majors at CC and what your future plans are.

I'm a psych major (it's so much fun! You'll love it!) and I want to go to a PhD program for clinical psychology. I might not be able to get in right away because they are so competitive, but hopefully I'll get in within a few years of graduation.

I'm just wondering...I was considering psychology a while ago, and a couple of people asked my mom what I wanted to major in, and when she told them psychology, they rolled their eyes and shook their heads. What the heck was that supposed to mean??? I'm sure by no means at all is psych an easy major...

Well, the difficult thing about psychology is that there is not much you can do with just a bachelor's. Grad school really is a must for a decent job, and even a master's in psychology won't really do it. You'll have to get a PhD or go to a professional school like medical, law, or business. They also might have done this because some people don't really understand what psychology is and they think that you will just be reading people's minds. I've had a few people ask me whether or not I was analyzing them when they found out what I was majoring in. Don't worry about these people. Psychology is a very fun and very satisfying major. The only reason you should consider a different major is if you are not planning on continuing your education after your undergraduate degree. Otherwise, I say ignore these people and have fun in your major!
