Has anyone else gotten in to Ole Miss? I've applied for housing and am finishing up on my honors and Croft apps. Hope to see some more prospective students on here! Hotty Toddy!

My daughter just heard last week that she’s accepted! She’s still working on her honors apps & we are touring it in November.

I’m sure she will LOVE the campus and Oxford! I toured back in March on junior day and it was wonderful! When you’re there you must go to the Bottle Tree Cafe, they make the best cinnamon rolls in the world. The square in general is adorable and I’m sure that part of Mississippi is beautiful in the fall!

I was accepted and i’m about to start my honors application! I haven’t decided if i should go yet or not because i am caught i up in figuring out if it’s really as snobby as i hear!

my daughter was accepted to ole miss and went to visit this saturday and loved the campus, the city of oxford and the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone there. we were all set on univ of al but now she wants to apply to the honors college at ole miss and hope that the out of state tuition won’t keep her from being able to go there. this has kind of thrown me for a loop as i was all prepared for ua. any comparisons anyone would like to make between the two?

I think her choice will be determined greatly by her major choice, scholarships and the like. If you can give us a bit more information…perhaps we can share some thoughts!

Glad she like Ole Miss!

My D, a current junior, is also looking between Ole Miss and UA. As you no doubt are aware, there is a thriving UA forum here on CC. Two of the top kids from our high school’s class of 2011 were also looking between Ole Miss and UA last year. One went to Ole Miss (a girl) and the other to UA (a boy). (And this is from a school where the vast majority of kids stay instate and many to LSU, so these two schools are mortal enemies of most people in LA. lol)

From talking with their parents, both schools are very good and their honors programs are as well. From what I know UA probably has a slight advantage in that it’s honors programs has multiple components and there are more suite based housing for UA. Ole miss is currently building two new suite style dorms but when we toured they couldn’t tell us if they would house honors students. They also have two residential colleges that are suite style housing.

Yes, a lot depends on your major as seekingknowledge said. Both both do offer great assured OOS scholarships based on combo of GPA and ACT/SAT scores, so if your D is looking at Ole Miss’ honors program she should qualify for at least partial OOS tuition being covered by a scholarship.

My D and I toured Ole Miss this past spring and she just fell in love with the campus, Oxford, and the many opportunities the honors program offers. We will visit UA this November.

What is your D’s major? Is she big into Greek Life? Has she visited UA yet? I’m interested in following what y’all decide…

We visited Ole Miss and Alabama. DS thought Ole Miss seemed more warm and welcoming. He’s been accepted to Ole Miss but needs to get going on the honors app. I am not sure if he will end up there, but he liked it quite a bit.

I also applied to Ole Miss and Alabama. Even though Alabama is wonderful, I have definitely given Ole Miss the edge. I like that the honors college seems more inclusive. I’m also interested in the Croft Institute. Plus, Ole Miss is smaller, and I loved the campus and Oxford. If I end up at an out of state state school, it’ll be Ole Miss.

It looks like my son is done with his honors college application and will submit it tonight. Does anyone know when you find out if you are in the honors program?

Hello Everyone,
My dd is not a senior, she’s a junior, but we plan to tour Ole Miss in summer, so I am happy to see a thread regarding the school. I have figured dd’s GPA based on school requirements, and it’s only a 3.5 (including what we project her fall grades to be…her semester ends in 2 weeks). I believe if she continues that profile, it will be enough for acceptance, but am wondering about the honors college…what do they look at?

DD has taken a total of 5 honors classes and 2 AP classes, and will likely have 2 or 3 more AP classes next year. I’m guessing her SAT’s will be in the high 600’s, but that’s only a guess (based on sophomore year PSAT scores). She’ll take the SAT in March

If she can’t get some kind of merit aid that reduces out of state tuition fees, she’ll have to stay in California.

I am happy to be reading everyone who contributes to this thread.

Does anyone know when you find out if you are in the honors program?

VBC Mom. There is a chart that outlines the assured scholarships at Ole Miss. I think this might give you an idea of the range. Go to prospective students on the website. Then click on scholarships. Scroll down to this:

Academic Excellence Awards for Non-Residents
(based on the 2011-12 scholarship levels- subject to change)

Most students are usually notified between January and February since the Honors deadline is January 15th.

Son is an OOS junior who is interested in Ole Miss. Just saw the assured scholarship chart for Non-residents. Are those renewable every year or one-time awards? I couldn’t tell from the info on the website. Thanks!

Peachtide, when we toured back last spring they told us those assured scholarships are renewable based on gpa. Not sure of exact gpa though.

My D is an OOS junior as well!

There are currently 287 students in the “Ole Miss Class of 2016” Facebook group.
