Any other weather geeks?

At this time of year, I check the NOAA site daily.

I’ve got to say… the Atlantic is starting to look interesting.

No need to stock up on bread and milk at the moment, lol, but it makes for an interesting look, especially for those of us along the coastline.

My daughter was at the beach today, and came home annoyed. The tide from Hurricane Gert was so high that her stuff kept getting wet. She and her friend backed up to the boardwalk, then gave up and came home.

I KNEW I should have gone to the beach today!!! I love the ocean when there’s a storm out there. I brought my kids the day before Sandy hit, and it was breathtaking.

I’m in central Texas; we’re only expecting heavy rain over the weekend, but Harvey is becoming a bigger pest by the hour! This time yesterday, the projection was that it MIGHT be a tropical storm … an hour ago, they’re estimating Category 4 at landfall! Houston ISD has already cancelled classes for Monday and that is thousands and thousands of students, teachers, etc.

@cgpm59 I’m in central Texas too and as much as I don’t want a hurricane we can really use some rain!

Agreed, @3scoutsmom.

Stay safe, folks. And when you get the chance, please let people here know you’re OK.

Are all our college kids in that area prepared?

Texas A&M Galveston canceled residence hall move tomorrow .

@traveler98 and @labegg
Might be a good idea to get a few of these

My parents have a first-floor unit in a condo on Mustang Island, in Corpus Christi - right in the path of the hurricane. :frowning:

@MaineLonghorn please tell them to evacuate! The storm may not really be that bad but living without electricity, water and AC and unable to leave the island after the storm will not be fun! The longer they wait to leave the worse traffic will be. If they decide to stay, make sure they stock up on sunscreen and bug spray! The bugs after a hurricane are really bad because of standing water. We are far inland (Austin area) and our HOA just issued a warning about displaced snakes and other critters due to anticipated flooding.

@3scoutsmom, fortunately the Mustang Island condo is their vacation home. They live in Austin most of the time. They are on the side of a steep hill in the Westlake area, so they don’t have to worry about their house flooding, at least.

@MaineLonghorn forgive me for even mentioning it, but are landslides going to be a concern?

My heart is breaking, watching the news out of Texas.

Later I’ll go online and find a church there accepting donations. The denomination doesn’t matter. It I want to donate to those on the front lines who can help someone right away with no beaucracy

People on the southeast Atlantic coast…I realize that Texas and southern Louisiana are dealing with a major crisis. But Keep an ete on that potential ropical storm working its way up.
