Any outside visual art scholarships for current college students?

My friend's son is a very gifted artist; truly, he seems prodigious to me as he'd never had any art lessons until last semester, his first semester in community college, and his art is astonishing. He's transferring from the community college to a local university. Are there any competitions/art scholarships he could apply for to help defray the costs of this expensive college?

Thanks!

No outside art scholarships for current college students then? I am not sure where my friend should look…

sbjdorlo: I have some ideas for your friend’s son: first, look on the websites of colleges he might be interested in, particularly the financial aid pages which should list all types of aid available from the college, federal and state governments, etc., including scholarships, loans, and grants. Also, check out [url=<a href=“http://www.fastweb.com%5DFastweb”>http://www.fastweb.com]Fastweb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges/url which lists hundreds if not thousands of scholarships, and can be narrowed down by filling out a profile. He can also look at publications such as artist magazines which often have competitions at every level (student, amateur, professional) with cash awards. That’s a start!

colcon2010,

The magazines are a great idea! I had not thought of that. I will pass that tip along.

Thanks very much!

Though not scholarships there are definitely cash prizes to be had at [Contest Watchers : Category : Free](Free Contests - Contest Watchers)
