I'm curious about the film program specifically and would love to hear from UT students who have experienced it firsthand...

Mainly, did you have experience with filmmaking before entering the program and if so, did you find that the program added to your skills from the very start?

The reason I ask this is because, since my freshman year of high school, I have been very interested in going into film, so I started figuring things out on my own. By taking a variety of courses and working on skills on my own, I've learned a lot about media, communication, creative writing, cinematography, editing, film history and theory, etc.

It's true that additional knowledge even in areas I am familiar and comfortable with wouldn't hurt, but I don't want to enter the program and have to learn the things I already know again. I do NOT claim to know everything about film, not even close. Although I hear UT/Austin has a great and growing film scene, I eventually will have to decide if it's fitting for me.

The program is a major deciding factor in whether I attend UT or not, or if I should wait for a graduate film program instead.

Thanks for any input.
