What should I have done to make my application stand out better?

Please just apply to Princeton, you know you will not be happy unless you do and good luck!

Can someone please just give me feedback as to what I should have done. It can be very educational and informative for other people that I know of. thank you.

FALSE. That data must be at least 7 years old. I know for a fact that 2 years ago they accepted 200, and last year they accepted 162.

162/2100 = 7.7%

^ See my post #2 in your other thread regarding the DP as a source of admissions data:

The College Board admissions data is generally a year or so old (i.e., it’s currently for the freshmen and transfers who entered in Fall 2008), NOT 7 years old. Based on my experience following Penn admissions data for many years, I would trust the College Board data before I trusted that in the DP.

Were only there more people like you… sigh

Just don’t apply ED to UPenn. Clearly you are not happy with its “inferiority” to the other schools; apply where you think you will fit best.

There are a couple thousand other applicants who would give their right arm to get into Penn.

im a current penn undergrad and im asking you to please not come here. the last thing we need at penn is another one of you pretentious little kids who walk around campus ****ed off, acting like your too good to attend a top 5 university in the country. This school has been here for hundreds of years, housed some of the top minds in this country’s history, and has contributed far more than you ever will. you should know this as your father is an alum, but apparently the message is not clear. so please honor my request as i have just wasted the last five minutes reading these posts, and do not come to Penn. thank you

QUESTION
what does HYPSM mean!?! please :(

There’s a thread somewhere about abbreviations.

On College Confidential, people often refer to the most selective private universities by their first initials, or to the group in combinations. The most common is HYPS (Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford) or HYP (East Coast only version), but sometimes people tack on an M for MIT as well. There is a less-used LAC version, too: SWAP (Swarthmore Williams Amherst Pomona).

Anyone know the rough percentage of acceptance for legacy’s applying early admission?

^ See the table at the bottom of this page:

[Penn Alumni: Alumni Council on Admissions](http://www.alumni.upenn.edu/aca/overview.html)

Does anyone know if the OP got in? He really reminds me of my Asian father trying to get into the “best” and not realizing that Penn is also an amazing institution. sigh

I have lots of alumni connections to penn but did not apply ED. When I was deferred and ultimately rejected by MIT, I thought I made a huge mistake, but then on April first, I got into Penn, Brown, Cornell, and Princeton. Ultimately, I’d say, look at your stats. If you aren’t valedictorian with 2300+ SATs etc. then apply to Penn ED, but otherwise, chances are you’d get in RD anyway.
