Any PG Acceptances?

In 364 days from now, I will be recieving a letter indicating if i will be attending post-grad at some BS schools

366 days ago, it was a dissappointing day. The 3 top BS schools did not give me acceptance into Gr.11 SPS-epic phail Andover-epic phail and Milton- waitlisted. Decided to stay at my current school.

Anyways, how do post-grad acceptances look?

i got rejected from exeter, deerfield and andover should be coming today

what is “epic phail”?

keylyme - I think it means “epic fail”. Lol. That’s how I read it…

My son is considering a PG year (depending how college admissions go), although would have to apply late (obviously). He’s interested in improving his lacrosse skills; his parents want to make sure there would be an academic benefit as well. Any of you who got accepted/waitlisted/rejected willing to share your stats? I’m very curious at this late date what his chances would be at an academically good BS.

My friend got into Andover for a PG year to play football with a 1790 SAT, 3.56 GPA and a class rank of 27/148, dont know how.

xcyuen – do you play a sport? My understanding is that the vast majority of PG acceptances (particularly boys) is for recruited athletes. If you don’t play a sport and play it well, you would have a very difficult time getting admitted into any of the top schools. There is a school that is only PG boys – you might look at that one.

What is your reason for the PG year?

does anyone know if there is FA or “scholarship” funds for recruited athletes for a PG year? Any schools in particular, or how to go about applying for this type of non need $ ???

My friend got in

You stated how…he plays football. If you are good enough at the sport, you don’t have to be as stellar academically. Those are decent stats; add in excellence in the sport and it completes the package. Pleny of kids get into the Ivies with stats like that as well if they excel athletically and the school needs them.

What is your reason for the PG year?"

Yes, I play two sports. Track (pole vault) and sailing. For pole vault, I’m top 15 for H.S. Boys last year in ontario, quite competitve and i’m well on my way to Junior Nationals from the way it looks this year. I would consider myself for track at a national level and for sailing, provincial level.
When i applied to BS, i wasnt at this skill level in currently at, i wish i was, maybe i would have gotten accepted.

Umm…Right now i’m in gr 11, at a catholic in the International Baccleaureate diploma at my school. I live in ontario. I had somewhere around a 75 percentile on my ssat’s last year. I havent taken any ACT’s or SAT’s, what should i aim for?

Why do i want to go to PG?

I’m looking at going to PG at Andover, Exeter, those tier 1 schools.
Reasons
1-in my IB diploma, im missing out on classes like Physics, Buisness, excersize science and statistics. Also, i would like to take some more advanced math courses because the Standard Level IB math (Higher level not available at my school:( ) is waaayyyyyyy tooo easy. I want to go to PG so i can take those classes

2- I would like to study the Russian language because of the possibility of me going to Moscow State university

3- easier transistion into the college life

4- Sports…not so much a reason. Pole vault seems to be an event that you need a really good coach and facilities to get better. But if i were to go for PG, i would definetly play sports and train year round.

Post secondary schools im looking at-

University of Sherbrooke in Quebec
Moscow State University in Russia
Ivies- Yale, Cornell
and
University of Saskatchewan

There is FA for PGs. My daughter was is a Pg this year. She is, however, a hockey player and needed a year to get her SAT scores in place. She received a very generous package at a “hockey school”. Next year she will go to Cornell which she found out about early in October.

My advice would be to apply to boarding schools along with your college applications. I would not wait until after the fact because all FA will be gone.
This is wahat we were advised to do.

PGs’ academic stats are not as important as is their athletic ability.
