Any place around Berkeley campus has a car renting by hours service?

Yeah, Zipcar! Groupon has a coupon out RIGHT NOW and if you’re lucky you can get a really good deal on a day package.

So where can I find this coupon from groupon? I couldn’t find it on its website.

Anyone knows how the zipcar works? I went to its location at 2200 Durant, there is nobody there, only one in the the zipcar reserve parking.

across from Berkeley HS, I remember seeing a car rental place while I was walking back from my GRE biology test a few months ago

I’m a Zipcar user, and I have to say: it’s really convenient. The prices may be somewhat expensive, but for the few times you actually need a car, it’s a lifesaver (instead of being forced to take a Taxi, paying extra for delivery, etc.)

As a Berkeley student, I paid a discounted membership fee of $25 (for a year) that was also good for driving credit. Usually, if you don’t reserve ahead, you will end up with something like a Honda Civic for $9/hr during peak times and $5/hr during off-peak times.

Gas and insurance are all covered, so it actually isn’t that bad. The only real issue with it is that there may be a hefty late fee if you don’t reserve it long enough, and also that multi-day road trips aren’t feasible. However, considering how much more it’d cost you to have your own car, you’re better off using a combination of planes and taxis if you are like most people in taking multi-day trips.

As for speaking to someone: their office is actually in SF. I had to go there when they made a typo in inputting my Zipcard number. It’s a few blocks walk from where the F drops you off, if you’d like to speak to a person about signing up.

Hi excelblue:thanks for your explaination, now I understand how it works. And do you know if those cars have GPS inside?
