I'm flying in from out-of-state and don't want the hassle of bringing liquids in my luggage or carry-on, so I was wondering if there was a place where I can go the first day to buy contact lens solution? Preferably on campus, but I'll take any suggestions that are nearby. Thanks in advance :)

Yes. You can definitely buy solution on campus.

I’m guessing you can buy it in the Lobby Shop in the Bryan Center. I don’t wear contacts so I can’t say for sure, but it’d be hard to imagine them not carrying it. In the unlikely scenario where they don’t, you can just ask 90% of the people, it seems like now, that wear contacts.

In the end as with all other things sold at the Lobby Shop, however, you will want to find an alternative source - Target, Costco, etc - where you can buy in bulk and store because the Lobby Shop is quite overpriced due to low competition within walking distance.

You can also buy it in the shop underneath the Marketplace on East Campus.

If one of your friends has a car and they go grocery shopping, ask them to pick up a bottle when they go to Kroger or Costco or any other place.

That’s actually what I meant, haha. I keep forgetting that freshmen live on East…

Awesome… the “East Campus Duke” store, right? (I looked it up!)

Thanks for the replies y’all.

Is that really what that store is called? I always call it the store below the marketplace.

It kinda makes sense…I mean it’s the only branch of Dukestores on East as far as I know. My freshmen year my friends started calling it Marketplace down under for some reason.

drugstore.com can ship it to you.

I would have it shipped to you because buying it at Duke is very expensive and they may not have the brand you want.

JTKay,

Just to be safe, though, and having learned this the hard way, I suggest you purchase one of the small, travel size bottles of lens lolution and throw it, along with your case, into your carry on. (in a 1-qt zip-lock of course) If you have a connection to make or weather gets bad, schedules can be disrupted.

The shop in the Bryan center will have lens solution. You will probably want to hit Target or another store shortly after you arrive to get whatever things you want for your room and your snack shelf. You can stock up then.

Thanks for the advice… I’ll get one of those travel bottles in that case. I never considered my flights changing or going awry - probably should have.

Just another question - are there direct buses to Target? (All I know is I should take the C1 to go from East to West.. yeah.. I’m one of those clueless freshies.) Or will I definitely have to look for someone with a car?

Nope, no direct buses to Target that I know of. Ask around for someone with a car, or ask someone who’s going with their parents on move in day if you can tag along.

JTKay, will you be doing the move-in by yourself? Perfectly do-able, but want to know before offering any more advice.

Unfortunately yes, I’ll be moving in all by my lonesome self. Parents can’t afford to fly me out to NC, stay at a hotel for a few days and fly back.. sadly. And I’m the only one from my school going to Duke too :/

I know some people off Facebook already so I’ll see if I can meet up with them or something like that. I think that’s the only way right now. Oh well, it’s just a one-time hassle.

check for a PM

The international house sponsors a bimonthly ride to target.

I assume anyone can use them.

I replied your PM! Thanks so much for the advice :)

Thanks for the link Azmodan. I’ll tag along and put on a British accent if I have to. Haha, kidding (though that might be fun!)
