My son, a freshman, at UW will be having his 19th birthday in March. I would like to surprise him with an order delivered to his dorm of perhaps some baked goods, like brownies or chocolate chip cookies. Does anyone out there who lives in Madison know of any place in town that makes home made baked goods that will deliver (for a fee of course!) to his dorm? Maybe somewhere I could place the order online and order ahead of time?

Check with Res Halls for their birthday cakes. When my son had a next to campus apartment I checked on bakeries without any luck. I was able to mail and UPS frozen local bakery sheet cakes successfully- March is likely to be cool enough to do so. We lived a one to two day delivery distance. Once I dropped the cake off UPS in the early evening and it arrived the next morning.

wis75: Thanks for the suggestion. We live in California so that is not going to work. I am really looking for a bakery that delivers stuff to the campus area. I did this for my other son who attends the University of Colorado and it has always been a big hit with him. Usually I send him like two Baker’s dozen of chocolate chip cookies. Both of my sons do not like cake that much so cookies or brownies would be the thing to send, if I could find somewhere in the Madison area. Maybe I will check with the Residence Halls about cookies.

You could likely send frozen home baked cookies or brownies, perhaps paying a premium for fast delivery. They will thaw but start cold for better freshness. The post office has boxes that ship regardless of weight. I have made up packages with silly bday items.

We ordered a box of cupcakes delivered to Sellery for my son’s birthday from a local bakery – Madison Sweets. They do cookies too, though I think the website said they need phone orders for cookies. Everything worked smoothly, so I would recommend it. There is a university service as well that you can order, but the kids have to go to the dining hall to pick it up, and I liked the idea of delivery to the dorm.

Good luck!

As the poster above replied, try Madison Sweets. Here is their website - we love to have their cupcakes every time we are in Madison.

Good luck!

Try ‘Cookies by Design’, on Mineral Point Road on the West Side of Madison (608-829-2939). She has the cutest Bucky Badger cookies and Wisconsin-themed cookie baskets. I have bought special cookies there for years and the owner is very sweet (she has two college-aged kids). Don’t be put off by the franchise-look to the website.

You can also order 1 dozen chocolate chip cookies and a quart of milk from UW housing/dining online to be delivered to your son’s dorm room for $12 (or make it two dozen!):

Gee, thanks for all of these suggestions! I am going to check all of them out!

Nobody has mentioned fresh madison market. I have to. AMAZING service, great for catering and care packages. I think they’ve got an easy ordering form for care packages delivered anywhere in Madison for students.

Tank Goodness - very good cookies, nice packaging, etc.

Aha- Madison Sweets opened too late for me to use it. About time there are options like these. I noticed the high price- $4 gal for milk from Tank. Local milk prices are a lot lower in WI!
