Any point in asking for merit if not awarded any to start?

My son was awarded merit money at every school but one. That makes the one school less realistic for us because the COA is significantly higher, but if the COA was more even, he’d seriously consider that school. Is it worth expressing that to anyone in the admissions office, or is that ridiculous?

Every college has its own bar for awarding merit aid. Sure,MYOS can ask, but don’t expect a lot.

Are you sure the school offers merit? Not all do.

I would only ask if you are ready to commit if your desire is met.

I would look at the common data set for that school and see how many people get merit aid.

You can ask, but you are almost certainly wasting your time.

Merit is the carrot on a stick for the students a college wants the most. It is awarded by the admissions office, not the FA office.

Was this college more selective than others your child was accepted to? If so, that’s probably why they didn’t offer merit.
