Any Poli Sci Majors Out There???

Can you please talk about you experience in UCLA's Political Science major? How competitive is the major? What do you think of the professors? How was the overall experience? Thanks.

my bf is poli sci…it’s really hard to get into the lower div courses that you need. seniors will still be finishing up their lower divs because the classes fill up so fast

I’m a PS and History major (first year). I’ve only taken 1 PS class so far, and that’s PS 40: Intro to American Politics. I had Prof. Vavreck for that class. I guess overall the class is really easy. You’re graded on section participation, one midterm, one short paper, and one long final paper. I haven’t gotten my final grade posted yet, but I think I may end up with a A-, depending on how well I did on my final. The midterm was actually really easy, I just made boneheaded mistakes (I got an 82 T-T ).

It’s really difficult to get into lower division classes. For spring quarter, I had priority enrollment, and when it was my time to enroll, PS 50 and PS 20 were already filled -_- I was able to get into PS 10 though, so I’ll be taking that next quarter.

For UCLA’s Poli Sci major, you get to select a concentration on what type of politics you want to get into (American Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, Comparative Politics, Methods & Models).

Here’s the website listing the classes required for the major:

Thanks! Anyone else have some input? BTW, i am going to specialize in International Relations…
