Well, I have already applied early decision to a school that I am in love with, but just yesterday I decided to check out Pomona's website. I liked what I saw. I would love to apply to Pomona, but it's 3000 miles away. I don't know if I'm ready for that. Are there any Pomona students here that live on the east coast? Or does anyone know of such students? What do you (or they) think about it?

I'm from NC, and there are plenty of people from almost every state along the coast...TONS from Massachusetts and New York, especially

What are travel expenses like? The Claremont colleges sound awesome. I really think I might apply to one. I'll just have to convince my mother who doesn't want me going more than six hours away.

If I want to go home, it's $200 for a roundtrip ticket. But as I already said, I'm from NC. And I'm sure prices vary.

I don't think the cost of plane tickets really stopped the East Coast kids from coming here; if you're eligible for financial aid, Pomona allots $750 a year for transportation expenses for most of the East Coast states, which should be about the cost of 3 roundtrip tickets.

You can convince her. I convinced mine.

That's a good deal.

Yeah, I'll try my best to talk to her... we shall see. :

Where are you from in North Carolina??

charlotte!

Plena, my D is 3000 miles away at an awesome LAC and it's terrific. She went the other direction, West to East. Pomona is less than an hour's drive, normally...just too close.
But it's a terrific school.

Tell your mom that once you're in college, the distance doesn't matter. Much. My D did come home for Thanksgiving but this may be the only one. Winter break...no problem.
