Thanks for taking the time to read this. It would be a huge help if i can a glance of where im at. I ve visited online college sites but I want more feedback given my stats. So, here goes…
GPA: Low, but 4.3 UC gpa, and a 3.6ish UW. Had a baddd freshman year, as you can see.
SAT: not hoping to submit, but 2020. 560 CR, 730 Math, 730 Writing.
ACT: 33. Might take again to superscore to possibly get a 34.
SAT II’s: havent gotten the scores but expecting 800 in math 2 and low 700s for physics.
AP’s: very few. US History-4, Spanish-3. I’m taking 4 this year so I hope Mudd can see that.
Extracurriculars: President of an organization that supports Crops of Love ministry, one that helps feed tens of thousands of children (discussed in my essay). Given multiple awards and 200+ hours of community service. Unfortunately, nothing else–something I really regret.
Major-Architecture. I have a decent portfolio to go with it. ( for HMC, Im going as a civil engineer, as architecture and civil engineering are closely related.)
AS i am writing this, I realize that my chances are weak, but it’s worth a try. I mean, its a pretty good LAC and I will get a ton of financial aid and its near my sister’s grad school, so there are a ton of benefits.
But I love USC and UCLA and will be content with UCSD or CPP or SLO.
All alumni of HMC, please comment and steer me on the right track. I would love to go there, but its my “reach” school.
male, ACT: 32 E. 35M 30R, 34S 28Essay. @uclaparent9 but will UC’s look at my UW including my freshman year? MY UW for sophomore and junior year is roughly 3.9 since I got all A’s and one B.
Yeah, my chances are lower than I want them to be, but I hope USC and UC sees my improvement and I’m hoping that my essay will make up for my gpa.
^that (10-11 uwgpa) definitly makes a difference!
If you raise your ACT to 34, your chances will be good for UCLA (high match/match). USC puts weight on freshman grades (as well as first semester of senior year).
HM will still be unpredictable!
thanks!
im taking the act again next saturday, hoping to superscore my reading to a 34. But I want schools to see my senior year, it will definitely show my improvement from my disastrous freshman year.
haha i know Hm is unpredictable, but I hope they will take a chance on me.
I believe HMC wants to see all scores. And you can’t specifically major in Civil Engineering at HMC, they only have general engineering. Your GPA is low and test scores do not “wow”. Your current ACT is under the 25th percentile. And they get many more male applicants, so competition is stiffer. I would say it is still a reach if you get that 34, high reach if you stay at 32.
yeahh…HM isnt my number choice in terms of chances that I ll get in, its just a reach school. Im really hoping for USC, but I heard that pool is just as difficult to stand out. My essay, not to brag, will be very unique and different. Does HM look for improvement? I know USC does, and I ll ask HM personally, but if anyone knows, that would be greatt.
