All the future Freshmen seem to be up in a ruckus about their decisions. Are there any potential transfers that are in the same boat I am? I've sent everything in and now I am waiting. It's a weird sensation having no idea where I will be going. It's disturbing to think that the school I want the most is probably not going to accept me (statistically speaking)

I hear you man. 2-6% (depending on the year) admit rate is not particularly endearing (Source: http://web.mit.edu/ir/cds/2007/d.html).

On top of that, there's little to no data on the typical profile of the MIT transfer applicant who is admitted. What % of the pool are really superstars versus average MIT applicants akin to the freshman pool? Maybe we can start something now that both our applications are in.

Care to share your stats and mutual angst?

For some reason I do not think there is a 'typical' MIT transfer.

I'm a bit weird, I went into community college straight out of high school (01). I obtained a ~2.74 gpa (mostly humanities) from my first college by Fall 04, took spring of 04 off and started attending a new college and applying myself. 4.0 (mostly engineering+science+math) ever since...

GPA:
4.00 (current college)
3.21 (combined)
SAT:
Reading: 740
Math : 710
Written : 560

SAT II:
Physics : 800
Math 2 : 800

ECs :
2007-08 Treasurer of the Programming Club

I have focused more on surviving rather than impressing admissions people and burning out (not an insult, just my priorities, plus I didn't consider MIT an option until I realized that my grades were well beyond the requisite for state schools). I usually just work during the summer. I want to major in Mechanical Engineering. My letters of recommendation are great (or so I am told, I avoided the ego building experience of reading them). I think I have a good chance but it seems hourly I fluctuate between knowing I will get in and realizing that I do not stand a chance.

So what's your story? Any questions?
