Any premeds taking calc 2?

Calc 1 for easy A or Calc 2? I had a 4 on BC exam. Thanks!

Did you send your AP score to your college? Does it appear on your transcript?

If so, both calc 1 and calc 2 will be marked as retaken classes by AMCAS. That makes it looks like you’re GPA fluffing. (which you are) Adcomms hate that.

Take stats if you want a math class.

FWIW, D2 chose door #3. She took Calc 3 and went on complete a math minor that gave her a whole lot more post-graduation career options than a plain bio degree in the event she didn’t get a ed school acceptance.

@WayOutWestMom - semi-related - my D had her AP Bio score sent to her school, but they don’t use it to give credit for Bio 1 or Bio 2, but rather just 4 credits listed as a ‘BIO Elective’ (ie, so it covers 4 of her “64 credits in math and science” degree requirements). She’s taking the college’s Bio 1 this semester.

Would the fact that she took the AP Bio exam and sent the score make her Bio 1 a retake by AMCAS, or no because it doesn’t actually give credit for that class (ie, she doesn’t have the option to NOT take Bio 1, whereas the Calc poster can skip Calc 1 due to the AP).

Thanks.

@Schadret

Since her college did not give her credit for a specific class, then it’s not a retake.

D2’s college had the same exact policy w/r/t AP bio.

Some colleges practically force premeds to retake AP math/science courses, even if the student got a 5. Many incoming frosh sign up for “retakes” because the advisors make such a strong push. Few, if any, understand that those courses will go down as retakes. I doubt the advisors know that either.

So I should go to calc 3 then? But what happens if the med school doesn’t accept AP

You can take Calc 3 if you wish or you can take statistics (which you’ll need for the MCAT).

Med schools will allow you to use another upper level math course to fulfill your math requirement if they don’t allow AP credit.

I just talked to my advisor, ap scores will not specially be listed on my transcript, so nothing will be seen as a repeat.

Is it AP classes not listed or grades not listed? Normally colleges which are giving you credit just list the class without a grade.
